Is this motherboard good enough for my build? If not, what are some better alternatives?

I've had someone say that this motherboard doesn't have a VRM heatsink, and that they strongly recommend a motherboard with one. What is a VRM heatsink? How important is it?

Additionally, I've had someone say that I've compromised on the motherboard. In what ways is this motherboard compromised? is there really any big difference between this motherboard and a higher end one?

the VRM is what delivers power to your CPU ect thay can get quite hot a heatsink cools the vrm chips . i think you will be allright with that board as long as your not overclocking.

Also pick RAM carefully. Depending on the board you choose, make sure to be on its QVL and if not it must be confirmed that it works.
Ryzens dont feel to good with CL17 RAM. It should be CL14/16/18, and 3200~3600MHz.

If you are going to be gaming, and your GPU selection says you are, then invest in a better Motherboard with VRM (voltage regulation module) cooling and PSU, as well as Ram with an even numbered Cas # as your AMD Processor will thank you.

That motherboard is ok , running a 65W cpu in stock that vrm will handle it just fine.
dont see a point buying an 100$+ so called budget B550 when you can buy a decent B450 board like this MSI b450m provd max
Also i would recommend changing that gigabyte psu for an SeaSonic S12III 650W or EVGA BQ 650W
