Is 1.525 vcore safe for 24/7 use on an e8400? Under full load (orthos) it dips to 1.488volts. It's currently running at 4.2GHz at this voltage and the temps haven't gone over 60c yet. Should I perhaps lower it a bit to maybe 4GHz for 24/7 usage or will it be fine at 1.525???

Thanks :toast:

TBH, i dont know a great deal about OCing 45nm, but I dont like the idea of going above 1.45v for a 65nm, and a 45nm is supposed to need less volts.

This does seem a little high. is this the lowest stable voltage you have managed to acheive?

Under air, deffinitely not ok. The chip with degrade and your overclock will slowly and permanently become unstable. I wouldn't run a 45nm chip over 1.4v's on air with the exception of benching.

Wow :twitch::twitch: 1.525 is a lot of voltage for any 45 nm cpu, even on suicide runs I never give my Q9450 more than 1.42 volts. I suggest sticking to something like 1.36 and maybe tinkering with the other voltage like NB and FSB termination will help you reach 4 GHz.

OK, I think you're right. I've heard 1.45v is the absolute max safe vcore for 24/7 usage so I'm gonna find what I can do with that.

You heard wrong. 1.45 is not really safe, especially not for 24/7 use. Then again, it all depends on how long you are going to use this chip.

wow, that's some high vcore. Really try to keep it around 1.425v, just too be safe. Hopefully you'll be able to get 4.0ghz with that. The newer batches of e8400's are not an automatic 4.0ghz though, some people are having trouble getting 3.9ghz stable on 1.425v.

Apparently Intel says this theirselves. I know a lot of people say otherwise.

EDIT: I'm at 4GHz now (w00t:)) using 1.425V in BIOS (1.39 load) and I'm quite happy with that. Guess I've found my CPU's sweet spot, just a shame it's not a sweet as other's I've seen :ohwell:

I kept both my E8400 and e7200 at 1.39V under water. 4GHZ is the best range for them 24/7.

Well I've now found that I need 1.45 (1.41 load) for stability at 4GHz. Guess that's my new 24/7 settings :toast:
