No, not a new concept. I have a wooden HTPC case that is designed to look like an antique radio. It blends in with the living room excellently. It's good for noise absorption as well, yet is cool due to good ventilation paths.

I like making cases out of wood because:

1. Components nowadays dont heat up much.
2. We got really nice silent high CFM fans
3. Wood is an excellent sound damper on their own.
4. Looks awesome if you have a lot of wooden furniture.

Is that actual wood or is it just some wood shavings and glue with a razor edge thin layer of something resembling wood at the top? Because that is ususally what "wood" is.

The bigger case looks good though. I like it, even with the window, which never happens.
