I have an Intel machine. Intel was the main option in 2017. I have no regrets, the past two years have been fast, stable, and trouble free. Zero issues. I'd probably build another Coffee Lake machine again, I've built a family computer i5 8400 with an AsRock Z370 (was easier to put Win 7 onto this series) as well and it is rock solid. Don't care about having more cores or threads for what I do right now. Thought about building another i5 8400/9400 based system as these 6 cores are cheap on the used market ($100-120), to replace an aging 1366 system.

Until about a month back, main rig was an Intel i7 3960X + 2x VEGA64 rig. Started on a new Ryzen build so now main rig is AMD.

Still rocking a 4790K at 4.9. I'm more interested in upgrading my GTX 1070 than upgrading my CPU/board/RAM.

I enjoyed the Phenom II x4 940 I ran for almost 5 years. I kept holding out, hoping that AMD would get their act together and have a decent improvement with Steamroller....I wanted to continue to support AMD. Going to a Bulldozer wasn't beneficial and Piledriver wasn't much of an improvement....once AMD announced they were holding back the HEDT CPUs from Steamroller I pulled the trigger and picked up my current i5-4670k around the start of 2014. Still rocking it for almost 6 years now.

Since the first MB I had died with my 4670k, I got a new one for it and sent the original I had in for RMA. After I got the first MB back I picked up a cheap i5-4460 and cobbled together a HTPC computer for Plex and gaming, if needed.

Here I sit, both PCs in my house running Intel. Daughter's laptop is Ryzen 5 2500U.

I'm working on saving up for a new system, I've been eyeing the Zen 2 - would really like a 3700X, but I feel the price is still kind of steep for my budget. It would be nice to see a 3700 version, priced more around $279....I'd rather have an 8core over a 6core CPU, it would feel like more of an upgrade over my current quad-core. Guess I just keep saving and see where I end up in the next 4-6 months.

I am still rocking at my 4770K intel. Would want to try AMD but selling my old haswell rig is not really an option nor very hard to sell.

Intel for my laptop since I couldnt find AMD as well when I bought it.

So basically, If I will to replace my desktop, I want to try and jump to the Zen train since I read alot of good reviews on it.

If we go through the history of my main computers as far back as I remember...

Desktop: Athlon 64 X2 3800+ > PowerPC 970FX > Core 2 Duo T7400 > Core 2 Quad Q6600 > Core i7 2600K > R5 2600X.
Laptop: PowerPC 7447A > Athlon II P340 > Core i5 2415M > Core i5 5200U > Pentium G4560 > Core i5 6500T.

Three AMD chips, two IBM chips, and seven Intel chips.

I've favored Intel over the last 13 years.

7700k, so I'm not exactly looking for a CPU upgrade at this time. Have a Ryzen 2500U laptop, too :D

I'll see how this Threadripper 3 vs Intel Cascade Lake X deal shakes out, hopefully either platform can reasonably justify a hobbyist's upgrade!

Started with Intel (486 SX25, DX4 100), then moved to Duron 700, Athlon 1.8(?) XP, Intel again with E5200, then i5 3470, now on 3700x. Work laptop is Intel, wasn't my choice since it came with the job, but AMD's still playing catch up in that segment. No brand loyalty here, same with GPUs.

I swore off AMD after the disaster that was the FX-8350. It's been a while but I think I ditched that turd as soon as possible for an i7-4770. Sold that at some point and now my main PC is an i5-7500. I have about a dozen other computers here, from servers to laptops to other desktops and they are all Intel Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge except for my HTPC that is an Athlon 760K.

Now that Ryzen 3xxx is out I wouldn't hesitate to build an AMD rig but I see no reason to upgrade from what I have because for what I do I don't need anything better. I do still lean towards Intel when building for friends and clients but I did a Ryzen build a couple weeks ago and it was excellent!

Z390/9900K in my gaming PC.
B350/1700 in my server.
Z97/i3-4150T in my HTPC.
Intel for all laptops...

If you think about it they are about the same... it's just whether you spend the money up front and hold the socket with that chip until it dies, or spend it incrementally and like to tweak your systems.

If you bought an 8700K and overclocked it... you got better performance than the 1700/1600x, 2600x, slightly better than a 3600x in games and, most likely the slightly slower than a stock 4600 zen 3 (assuming 10-15% improvement) - at which point AMD will ditch the socket (rumored).

The difference is whether you spend the money up front, or save up front and spend the same amount of money incrementally.

I bought the 7820x OC'd@4.7 with tuned ram and stupid x299 mobo, which i bought over 2 years ago performs EXACTLY the same as a 3700x in games and most benches game benches are eerie in how the FPS is identical; bought it over the 1700/b350 when it came out.

If I went AMD would have bought 1700, sold it for a ~$100 loss, 2700, sold that for a ~$100 loss, then the 3700x which would have overall cost me roughly the same $550 I paid initially for the 7820. So in the end you end up basically the exact same amount of money and end up at the same performance.

I guessing wildly the 9900ks will be about on par with a 4700/x in games (assuming they get a bit more demanding by then) and slightly slower in productivity apps. So if you buy that now @$500 or the 3700x @$329 and then sell it at a loss to buy the 4700 when it comes out you'll end up in generally the same spot $/performance wise.
If you bought an 8700K and overclocked it, it would beat 3900X in games plus the upcoming 3950X. The end. Especially true if you're a high fps gamer (100+) using 120-240 Hz monitor.
Any 8th or 9th gen i7/i9 at 5 GHz or more simply is much faster in CPU bound gaming. Most of the time the i5's will also beat 3900X.

If you do game emulation like I do, Ryzen is also a bad choice. Most emulators run really bad with an AMD CPU, AMD GPU can work tho, but Nvidia performs the best.

I highly doubt 4000 series will change much since it will be a minor upgrade, like 1000 to 2000 series.
4000 series will probably also face Ice Lake instead of Sky Lake. Will be fun to see.

Very glad my 9900K is a great overclocker and I don't have to think about getting a new CPU for years. Next upgrade is GPU for sure. Ampere next year is when I replace my 1080 Ti. Highly doubt AMD will be competitive in the high-end and I want RTX for Cyberpunk 2077, probably.

Have an i5-2400 system that I personally use and an FX6300 as well. Both are staying for the foreseeable future, till they become unusable.

Was planning to get a Ryzen 1400 for myself and replace the FX with a Ryzen 3600 but I figured I don't really need it.

I think I have few of everything: 3x 1st gen Ryzen PCs, Skylake-based NAS, semi-retired Haswell workstation, OrangePi Win Plus and RPi3 to top it all off. Currently moved WinPlus to be used as a print server, but overall it was a pretty snappy Ubuntu miniPC (devs still can't figure out a stable android distro for it). At one point OPi WinPlus was my primary PC in the office, cause all I really needed was a browser, PDF viewer and the ability to hook up an SPI clip and run flashrom.

Intel for all laptops...

He was just saying Intel is better for CSGO. No big deal.

Given his last hum.... 5 to 10 post I saw.... He's just a "AMD is bad, Intel is good" kind....

As for me, with my res, 1440p/1620p I know why I paint it red... And I am pretty confident that I can take on any "high fps gamers" with my measly 75hz RR
