No Cyrix, IDT, IBM, ST or VIA love in this thread?
Or am I just an old fart hanging out here?

My first Intel CPU was a 386SX-16 and my first AMD CPU was a 486DX2-80.
I think my one and only Cyrix CPU was something like a 6x86 P166...

Since my 1st PC in 1998 with a P3 500MHz that was a disaster of instability paired with a QDI board, I turned to AMD and I am satisfied with those systems being great in VFM. Athlon64 3200+ was my 2nd one, Athlon64 X2 4600+, next was the PhenomX3 720BE and the nowadays is one with an FX8350 that was bought used with the board, while all the previous systems had a new CPU-board combo. Not willing to pay much for a PC, always going for the best b4b. Probably will upgrade to a Ryzen 2600X or might even go for the 3600.

Ah, good old QDI, second worst boards ever...
I think I had at least two over the years.
PC Chips truly made the worst boards ever.
Worked in a computer shop who sold cheap junk to people that didn't want to spend any money on a computer and as such used a lot of PC Chips hardware.
Picked up a fresh batch of boards from the distributor, 6/10 were DOA...
I wonder what happened to QDI though, as apparently it was a rather large Chinese manufacturer.

Oh I forgot, I have a Palmtop PC which has a MIPS CPU, Casio Casiopeia E-100 (with Windows CE).
This was actually my first own computer and I still have it laying around somewhere.

Microsoft was trying to do a Windows CE push at one point, so they handed out a bunch of free Compaq Aero 1530 devices to the media in the UK at the time.
One of the more pointless devices I've owned over the years. Admittedly, this was around the time when most people used a Palm Pilot or Psion 5 or similar, but at least the latter had a keyboard...
Then again, I guess we wouldn't have the phones we have these days if it wasn't for these devices.

I'm fairly certain that was the cpu in my first pc. I wasn't interested in technicals back then but I know for sure it was Cyrix running 166MHz, I remember because it was supposed to be a cheaper (albeit probably slower) equivalent to Pentium 166.

After that:
Celeron 300MHz
Athlon 64
Athlon x2
E2160 - now that was an overclockers' dream cpu. Nominally just 1.8GHz but running it @3GHz was pretty standard and they were capable of +100% clocks.
Q6600
i5-2500k - still with me about 7 years later, and even now I'm not completely convinced I want to upgrade.

The only AMD processor I have ever owned was the socket 939 Athlon 64 3500+ about 14 years ago, that was also my last desktop. I have gone laptop ever since. So for me its been Intel in laptop form for 14 years.

I have owned, i7 720qm upgraded to i7 920xm ES, i7 2640qm upgraded to i7 2920xm, i7 4710mq, i7 6700hq, i7 7700k in a laptop, i7 8750h, to my current one i9 9880h.

I have always preferred Intel but im warming to my Ryzen. For some reason I feel like Intel is smoother but Im willing to admit that it could be down to my bias.

My main was a 7820x but switched to AMD 3900x. The other rigs in the house are still Intel. When it comes time to refresh the 3930K's (handme downs to the kids) I'll be dropping in AMD setups. Cheaper and much lower power draws.

I have intel on everything but my gaming box I am building. It's an AMD A-10 w/ a 580 that'll be run on my 1080 TV.

Eventually, I will be switching my Cruncher's around and adding some RyZen to the Farm. I need a few more month's before I start spending any money on it though...
