At first, I couldn't find the firmware TPM in my BIOS so I jumped the gun and ordered a physical chip from Newegg. It was like 16 bucks. Then after that, someone very helpfully pointed out where the TPM is in my ASUS BIOS (Advanced settings--PCH/FW) yet it never showed in any searches. Talk about obscurity! In the interim, Microsoft kicked me out of their Insiders program due to no detected TPM. :ohwell:

I ran a tool off GitHub called WhyNot11 and got this:
why not 11.PNG

So I enabled the BIOS TPM and got this:
why not 112.PNG

I was then back in the Insiders ring like magic. Then I installed 11 from an ISO that was shielded from Microsoft's DMCA. Went perfectly and took 15 min. All my software still works, including RivaTuner SS. I do like the new Start Menu but there aren't too many obvious improvements right away, just some cosmetic changes to File Explorer, etc. It's at least as fast as 10 was but unsure how much faster b/c I'm not benchmarking. One thing I really appreciate: Startup and Shutdown are unimpeded. Bottom line for me: it's OK overall, so not going back to 10 right now. But not earth-shattering.

My rig is unworthy of the Windows 11 greatness. :p Alas, I will have to wait until I build a new rig to be deemed fit for Windows 11. Well, I had planned to wait at least a year to get Windows 11 anyway.

Windows 10 creates the same basic partition setup with UEFI/GPT and Legacy BIOS/MBR. It creates the main Windows partition, a 500MB recovery partition, and a 50-100MB System partition. There are no multiple 500MB partitions cluttering up the storage devices. There is one 500MB partition, and it's created regardless of if you use MBR or GPT.

MBR/BIOS Default Partitions:

GPT/EUFI Default Partitions:
View attachment 205482

So no point in sticking with MBR/BIOS.
Hi,
Default partitions is not what I'm referring too
It's after large build updates 10 creates another 450-500mb recovery partition and it just continues build after build.

This should make people angry. I can't upgrade to Windows 11 because I have an i7-4790k. A processor that's as good as any processor, and better than most, but I guess "too old" by MS's standards. Microsoft is insane.

Right now isn't the time to get angry. The time for that is when MS stops fully supporting Win 10 and you have to upgrade. Win 10 has been out for 6 years now.

I'm actually very grateful; I have 5 machines that were on Windows 7 and all upgraded for free to Windows 10.

Looking at your system specs. You are aware that you are going to spend money to upgrade your hardware for Win 11?

Not necessarily, I have Windows 11 running on a weaker PC than my specs (a Core 2 duo with DDR2 RAM)

I agree! That processor isn't bad in Windows 10, which is a good indicator of performance! Windows updates are fast on my Haswell, and it's not even as good of a processor as that! It's a Core i5 4460.
It's the only one where I can legally use 10 Pro, at this time. 10 Pro is snappy enough on it, at the very least!

All my others are licensed for 10 Home, but thinking about purchasing Pro for my new builds.

I purchased a 10 Home license back in 2019 and didn't use it until January 3, 2020, the day of my first Ryzen daily-driver build, which at the time, was a Ryzen 3 3200G with a Radeon RX 580, which I purchased in 2019, IIRC. So, it was limited to 8 PCI-E lanes, a notable Picasso limitation.

I have never experienced that and that is definitely not a normal behavior of Windows 10.

I will be surprised if LTSC will demand TPM. Or any other BS really. Whats problem for some users would be insane problem (especially with current chip prices) for big companies that dont run new HW or just dont need it.

After doing more research on this, it looks like a lot of people will not be able to upgrade. It's not just TPM at 2.0. I thought my mobo was too old since it didn't come with a TPM module. But MS is enforcing hard limits starting at 8th gen Intel CPUs and 2nd gen Ryzen (source Reddit). This impacts companies like Dell and HP who won't have upgrade paths for their customers. Some people with 3 year old computers are saying they will not be able to upgrade. If this is the case, is there something MS and Intel are not telling people about CPU vulnerabilities? Because I think most people think security is not a problem on older CPU's with no TPM and Windows 10.

If you have an AMD Ryzen CPU, you need to enable AMD fTPM in the UEFI for it to spit out a green tick.

Mine failed and I can't find fTPM on my F30 bios for X570 Elite:
1624732340798.png

It's suppose to be in Advanced CPU settings but it isn't.

Edit.
They moved it to Advanced Mode > Settings > Miscellaneous

Now it passes:

App's confused about the spec's of my system but I am sure I wont be one of the lucky ones for the upgrade. Maybe the uproar over the TMP will change MS's mind.
