Well, I thought zonealarm was a good firewall. But I can't have it have it doing exactly what I installed it to prevent.

this is crap. im currently in a cisco certification class and this stuck right out at me.

"The company says it will fix the "bug" soon. In the meantime you can work around it by adding:
# Block access to ZoneLabs Server
127.0.0.1 zonelabs.com
to your Windows host file."

the 127.0.0.1 is a reserved network adress used for loopback testing of the tcp/ip code stack. thats used to make sure your software isnt corrupted. and i say again they dont know crap.

lol ours would always just block it at the router and said, "if you have learned enough to set it to unblock it, please only set it to unblock your pc and I wont reblock it" hehe.. :roll:

oh man, i'm proberbly not correct, but i'm 99.9% sure that what they said is correct, as that would just redirect anything that tries to access zonelabs.com to 127.0.0.1..hence the loopback, i've used that in the past to block ad's

but i doubt it would be sending anything dodgy back, its proberly just checking for updates, as everything does these days, or so it seems!

yeah theres a program called Connected that shows all network connections, ips, and ports. that shows that all the zone alarm is doing is checking the ip stack every now and then and pinging the router to check open ports...

just thought i'd say, theres a free firewall called kerio personal firewall, i've found it to be better than zonealarm, and it doesn't seem to be as annoying (never liked zonealarm, think it was the big red stop button in the first ones they made, put me off for life, lol)
