Hi guys,

You know my 775 Build? The Dang PSU "A Rosewill 610W Modular" is acting up. We have to set the Case on it's side or completely upside down to make where it completely shutsdown/restarts. Just today it restarted when I awoke. What's the deal?

Unplug from wall, touch bare metal of case interior, then make sure every PSU connector is firmly seated in the motherboard, graphics card, drives, etc. Connect power to the wall and see if problem is still there. If it is, replace the PSU.

I seen many. They typically do last forever, but all electronics will die - eventually.

Before replacing it, you might wanna aim for a double verify - try that PSU in another PC and try the PSU from the other PC in this PC. If the fault transfers then it's 100% the PSU.

Even if you haven't got the resources for this, just get another spare PSU and try. And before you do any of this, make sure the mobo connectors are unplugged and replugged (for contact wiping) and that nothing is shorting out, such as a loose wire somewhere etc.

Smash it with a hammer. No, seriously, that's a low tier PSU and could probably take some hardware along when it goes up in smoke.

Except without knowing the exact model number, this might not be low tier. Some Rosewill's PSUs are highly rated - deservedly.

Yeah but the other night I had to bang on the case to bring it back to life at times. Could be something inside going bye bye

Would you think the Modded Xeon CPU could be causing the problem? I mean I can't OC on this P5G41 so. Hopefully it's the CPU. I can just swap the cpu to the new P5Q

Does it have a hard disc in it, or SSD? HDDs in particular shouldn't be subjected to shocks like that, or they could die very quickly.

It's both with the SSD being the OS. As mentioned above it's probably the Xeon cause I don't think it was a issue with the previous CPU which was OC to 2.8 from 2.4

I can't remeber a good quality 610W Rosewill PSU. Even google can't find that. :kookoo:

I may be incorrect on the # but it's probably the CPU on the MB. I'm going to switch out

Why would a CPU stop working when put on its side? Given how it's all solid state and is firmly sandwiched in its socket, I think this would be one of the last components to be sensitive to positioning. On the other hand, if the cooler is on a bit loose and the CPU isn't clamped in tight, you could have this, although it's still a bit unlikely.

Because it's a Modded Xeon on a 775 board. Although it states it will work on the P5G41-M LE or just the P5G41 in general just depends on the board but can cause issue like mine although it can be the PSU just need further testing...

You could install some software to eyeball the voltages, when it's running, such as: https://www.hwinfo.com/download/

Then you could use a digital multi meter for taking more accurate readings.

Or skip the software and go straight to the DMM.

Who cares... replace it with a quality unit. If it is a Rosewill from back in the s775 days it was likely junk to begin with. They didn't start making good PSUs until the last couple of years. Back then, they were 99% junk.
If it's that garbage, then I guess it's worth replacing it anyway, even if it tests out ok. The age alone would be enough to not trust it to go bang.

What @dorsetknob said about a heavy-loading CPU would only exacerbate this problem.
