Thats right! I'm parting out my beast of a machine, no longer will I be sporting the Station_i7, I will soon be sporting something similar to what freaksavior is sporting, a Apple product.

Anyway, what is my stuff worth?

  • Intel i7 920 2.66GHz (Lapped, does 4.2GHz at 1.35v)
  • ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 X58 Motherboard
  • Kingston 3x1GB DDR3 2000MHz
  • XFX ATi 4870 X2 Video Card
  • Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer
  • Topower Tiger Series 1200W Modular Power Supply
  • OCZ Vertex 60GB Solid State Drive (omg awesome.)

BTW, anyone know when Apple is releasing Arrandale powered MacBook's?

Sell that epic rig for an Apple product is a huge downgrade.

Well, I have a few reasons that are personal, so I won't go on with a ramble about why its 'OK' to downgrade to an Apple product. It's almost blasphemous to do what I'm doing to a hardcore PC user but there is plenty that I do that doesn't involve gaming or the need for super high end hardware. I've actually had a MacBook and an older 17" iMac previously and currently we still have a 20" iMac in our bedroom which doubles as a TV when we watch shows before sleeping and we also have a Airport Xpress router which is very expensive by most peoples standards but it hasn't had one issue for the 7 months we've had it. I went through 3 routers over two years, all three of which had issues every single month or two.... I don't regret the $170 Apple router AT ALL. I love Mac's for what they can do, and I love PC's for what they can do. It's a win win situation really. Someone will get some awesome hardware, I will get the Apple product that I've been wanting for years. :)

Doesn't the mac premium make a mid end system cost the same of high end self built system?

It would make more sense to keep current rig.

Or if you want to use OS-X find out what you need and install it on what parts will work.
But still build it yourself.

Its silly to pay other people to build a machine when you can do it yourself.

Paying for something you can easily do yourself its like wearing a sign on your back that says " go ahead" with an arrow pointing towards your bottom :D

Yes, the Mac Pro tower's are stupid expensive. You could build a BEAST of a machine with water cooling for less than the cost of the cheapest Mac Pro tower. BUT, look at what your getting with the Mac Pro. The case and software can't be replicated, that has got to be the best case ever built. The design, the functionality and aesthetics of the Mac Pro case is second to none IMO. OSX and the software you get make the Mac Pro worth the asking price. You only really understand all this if you actually utilize what you're buying. I've done the OSX86 project/hackint0sh thing many times. Nothing replaces a REAL Mac, why do you think I have one still even after going through all the trouble getting a hackint0sh to work? :D

I even went as far as buying a Apple keyboard and mouse back when I had the hackint0sh going. :D

The fact is, the 17" iMac (Core 2 Duo powered of course) was much faster than the hackint0sh.

Apple keyboards?

Now that I don't understand one bit lol

I've never understood buying Apple computers ever, so I'll leave this thread to it : ]

Good luck with the switch etc though.

May have a look at your FS thread if you do one.

Just got a x58 board myself.

Sounds good Panther. I didn't expect anyone to understand why I'm doing this, I wouldn't either 3 years ago. :p

I'm gaming less and doing more things that are more suited on a Mac. Hell, I use my wife's 20" iMac all the time. I guess I'm getting older... :(

I only showed that case because of how close it resembles the apple cases, which had alot to do with why I picked it for myself.
