Basically ... don't quite know why they're exempt.

im pretty sure it was probably some Undertable agreement. Im sure EU is already trying to Ding MS for IE 10 in W8.

Reason No other browsers are packaged with either Windows or Mac is because both MS and Apple would have to pay royalities to package it. (Thats how alot of Free Software is- they charge businesses to integrate it)

You know, I would be thrilled if a clean installation asked me:

"What browser would you like to use by default?"
  • IE
  • Firefox
  • Chrome

I have an image where I work for imaging our machines (which happen to be Macs,) and the latest image I made has Chrome and Firefox on it as well, because not everyone likes using Safari. So honestly, I don't really care if the company does it because I can do it myself in no time, but it's a nice option if it is provided.

Ya whats funny if none of the other Browsers are packaged as an Installer it has to open the default browser to download and install it LMAO!

MS and Apple dont have to pay royalities to other companies because they dont implement the other browsers into the Installation disks.

Probably - apparently they can charge up to $7.8 billion in fees - really unreasonable for just a free browser...

...but they could automate it. This just means that MS is lazy.

I bet you that is because of how Windows and OS X are licensed. Ubuntu has Firefox on by default because their licenses are compatible.

I dont see what the issue is with IE being in the OS, its easy, just dont use it. I mean come on now Apple OSX/ios use Safari, both are value added features, just like the tools that have been coming with Windows since 17 years ago

Since when did the Apple v Samsung UK patent trial turn into the MS IE one or did I miss something?

um what? why exactly should they be fined?

This judge and this whole trial is a joke. Plus it was a legitimate trial, that was upheld in other countries, so it is not without merit.

I don't really see why they are making apple write an apology for a trial that really could have gone other way, as it did in countries with real judges.

By real judges I assume you mean judges that issue sentences that prove favourable to American business interests?

Ones that don't say things like "X company's products are not as cool than Y's"

Also, what is wrong with upholding business interests? You would rather them uphold the business interests of a Korean monopoly that can copy anything anytime it wants, and demolish any company on price since it underpays its workers, and gets away with anything it wants on home soil?

True but will that also lay open the door for Apple to be held in "Contempt of Court"
If you Mock the Courts Judgment and or the officials after it has been given that is "Contempt of Court" = Big Fine

Apple requested 14 days in which to make the changes to its website. This delay has been rejected by the judges who said today that “I would like to see the head of Apple make an affidavit setting out the technical difficulties which means Apple can’t put this on” to its website within 24 hours, said Judge Jacob, “This is Apple. They cannot put something on their website?”

14 days to edit a website... lmao

This is like that Family Guy episode where Lois tells Peter there are so many things wrong with what you just said...

ok, then name one.

It is a monster monopoly... "Samsung has 65,000 patents versus 9,000 for Apple." Just look at the wikipedia page and look at how many subsidiaries they have, and all of the industries that they are in. Here, read this:
Samsung produces around a fifth of South Korea's total exports[13] and its revenues are larger than many countries' GDP; in 2006, it would have been the world's 35th-largest economy.[14] The company has a powerful influence on South Korea's economic development, politics, media and culture...[15][16]

Also take a look at this:
DRAM price cartel
Samsung was fined EUR 145,728,000 for being part of a price cartel of ten companies for DRAMs which lasted from 1 July 1998 to 15 June 2002. The company received, like most of the other members of the cartel, a 10-% reduction for acknowledging the facts to investigators. Samsung had to pay 90% of their share of the settlement, but Micron avoided payment as a result of having initially revealed the case to investigators.[117]

CRT glass price cartel
Samsung Corning Precision Materials participated in a price cartel of four companies for CRT glass which lasted from 23 February 1999 to 27 December 2004. Samsung Corning Precision Materials received full immunity and was therefore not fined as it revealed the existence of the cartel to the European Commission.[118]
Those are just the ones they got caught by the EC for... you really think they don't practice business this way today?

They're just like every other company out there that is trying to grab as much money as possible. And they copied the ass off Apple just like HTC and everyone else did. Apple just went after the big dog (who is also the supplier of most of the parts of said copied product).

Everyone seems to know Tim Cook and Jobs, and who the head of apple is/was... you know who the head of Samsung is? I'm betting not.

Lee Kun-hee (born January 9, 1942) is Chairman of Samsung Electronics. He resigned on April 21, 2008 owing to Samsung Slush funds scandal, but returned on March 24, 2010. In case you don't know what a slush fund is... its money intended to bribe politicians, prosecutors, judges, senior government officials... he was supposed to go to jail, but then mysteriously got pardoned HMMMM... and now he is back as the head.
