I don't know but I sure am curious as this card sells for the same price as the BFG 6600 GT OC. I bought the BFG as an upgrade to my "old" ATI 9800 Pro (and it is indeed quite faster) but if the XL had been available in a form factor other than paper at the time I would have faced a serious dilemma. It's funny to see that ATI is back at competing with itself again: the X800XL plays in the same field as the X700 Pro

The x800xl is a lot better than the x700.

A lot better than your 6600GT too.

I get around 8800 in 3DMark 03 with the 6600 GT OC compared with about 6700 with the 9800 Pro. Keep in mind that those results are just as much dependent on CPU than GPU. But benchmarks don't tell the whole story. IMHO the 6600 GT is more than "slightly" better than the 9800 Pro, it's completely different and more at ease with the latest games. I paid $299 US for the 6600 GT but that was back when it was a brand new release. It's cheaper now. And to think that when I had bought the 9800 Pro I had paid over $400 US for it. But back then it was worth every penny. The X800XL was not available at the time otherwise I may have chosen it instead. The X800 series was way overpriced at the time. No way I'd ever shell out $700 for a video card unless I win the lottery.

You must know a bargain store I'm unaware of since $180 cdn is about $150 US, please share the good news. Lowest price I can find in the US for a 6600 GT OC now is $200.

X800XL is not the same price as the 6600 GT OC now but when I bought the BFG the projected price for the X800XL was $299 US which was exactly the same as the 6600 GT OC then. It was described to me as a "value" version of the X800 series

The X800XLs are pretty much the same thing as the pro.

It's on short-term megajumbo sale and includes the mail-in rebate you inevitably get on all cards at one time or another, regular price is $230.69

When I mention prices on discussion boards I refer to the regular retail price.

The picture accompanying the ad is odd. The box is indeed that of the 6600 GT OC but the card inside looks somewhat different than a BFG card, the cooling unit is not the same.

you obviously have no idea what you're talking about, the bfg 6600gt oc has 2 different gpu coolers... 1 black plastic like in the picture... and 1 round copper...

ive looked at both in the store, and bought the copper one a few months ago...

stop complaining about MIR... they work fine.... just not from BenQ...

if you dont like MIR,then buy the evga 6600gt for 178.99 retail price

I said it looked odd, that's all. Personally I have never seen a BFG 6600 GT OC with a plastic GPU cooler but I wasn't implying they don't exist. Since those are obviously cheaper to manufacture I imagine that sometime during the last year or so BFG launched a less costly to build version that yields a better profit margin. Some people prefer a flashy pic on plastic to copper. The copper cooler isn't that good anyway, the fan on my card started rattling a few weeks after I bought it so I changed it for a modest $18 Vantec to get rid of the noise. To my surprise I noticed a significant improvement in cooling performance.

Not too sure what you mean by MIR and BenQ. I'm not complaining about the sales site, I simply made a remark about the difference between retail price and sale price. Even if I saw an X800xxx on sale for $219 I wouldn't say "retail price for that model is $219". Usually when it comes to hardware pricing I quote the asking price from Newegg because it's very close to street price.

Why would I do that? I only buy nVidia based cards built by BFG otherwise I prefer ATI. I would never buy a card built by nVidia itself. Some vendors install good GPU's on flimsy cards and then sell them for half the price, which is what they're worth. My ideal vidcard would be an ATI based BFG with a Zalman or Vantec cooler. The main reason I bought the 6600 GT OC was to replace my 9800 Pro which was aging without spending a fortune and at the time the 6600 GT OC was the best value in this regard.
