Just brought CPU and GPU from Amazon but I might have been duped

I bought the i7 4790k and r9 270x for my friend and I don't have the items with me atm. Here's what he send me:

cpuz reporting only 2gb for the card and 2 cores 4 threads for the cpu. Please help

dxdiag does he the card as 4gb tho...also is it because the computer is idle that cpuz is showing 2 cores 4 threads instead of 4 cores 8 threads?

Use GPU-Z for card diagnostics (download from TPU).

It looks to be you have been done, certainly with the CPU. Looks to me as though they have played with device ID's in Bios to identify the chip as something it's not. What does it actually say on the CPU?

You are also using a very out of date version of CPU-z . It's on 1.71 or something around there right now. Being that you have newer hardware, it may be at least part of the issue.

ok i got my friend to figure the cpu out. had to go msconfig then uncheck the cores then restart then check the cores and choose 8 cores and restart.

now the gpu, dxdiag does show 3785mb. and with the cpuz being outdated I think we still have a chance...my question is does the 3785mb mean the same thing as the 4gb advertised?

and you could probably just do away with checking anything in msconfig

Perhaps because you never get the advertised memory, its usually slightly less.

Talk about eyeball burn. That CPU-Z chart is WAY too small for me to even read it.

Everything on the product page seems legit though, and items sold direct by Amazon are usually far more trustworthy than the ones that come from their sub vendors. Could be they just sent the wrong package by mistake. It's Christmas, packages fly out pretty fast this time of year.
