[MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS, not many tho ;) ]

I just finished the witcher and I have to say that was an amazing experience. Once you REALLY get into the game its depth and story line ensnare you. the ending was pretty clever too. as was the final cutscene :)

Has any1 else completed this game and have any thoughts on whome Alvin may have been ;)
I thought that was quite clever as there were numerous subtle hints planted throughout the game.

Im going to play it again, this time taking a totally different path. Quite sad it was over, but thoroughly enjoyed it, and would rate it amongst the best ive played, just for its shear uniqueness and wonderful storyline. The graphics were stunning as was the way in which you influenced the path of your game.

There is a major patch coming out soon thats going to re-write alot of things, change character models and add much larger quests.

I am currently in chapter 4, and love it so far. One thing I do not like about it is the lack of armor upgrades. Also sword upgrades do not seem to matter much. O'well it still is fun to play, and the nudity helps to smooth out some of the wrinkles.

that is the main problem i have with the game, is the ability to modify your armor and weapons (like oblivion)

well.. there are less opportunities for a full on upgrade, but meteorite swords you can upgrade to several combinations of red/blue/yellow. the silver swords you can upgrade with several runed blades with earth, moon ect runes, then there are blade oils, magic rune stones and blade enhancers.

not as much as oblivion, but plenty to mod with, and its a necessity on hard level to use spectre oil, vamp oil, necro etc etc. I fully red metiorite steel sword with diamond dust goes a long way to lopping of ones opponents head ;) Lol, i even got a new finishing move when i started a new game, lols, I stunned and knocked a fat guy onto the floor pounced on him and riddled him with dagger holes lols, I wasnt expecting that

however, there were a couple of things amiss with the game. Somethings Triss said when you woke up in merchant quarter with her ^^ did not come to fruit, especially to whome she was conversing with thru the mirror

And I have to say I dont ever get tired of hearing in the taverns someone shouting "Your Mother sucks Dwarf c**k!" lols!

Just finished this the other day. I got a bit tired of the Sherlock Holmes chapter, but, overall, the game kicks ass. Once I hit chapter 4, I knew I wasn't stopping until I finished it 10 or 14 hours later.

It's obvious who Alvin is. The unknown is who the guy in the ending cutscene movie is.

i just recently got the game as well, was really cheesed off when i couldn't work out how to attack properly.

Now though, that i am used to the camera angle (am annoyed there is no first person), i am getting immersed in the game a lot and find myself wanting to play it more and more.

there are methods in which they inject things into the eye to prevent bacteria growth/infection etc. They do that through the pupil or in the tear ducts.

But no, that picture is photoshopped. at least i think it is...

You have to click once to attack, then he swings three times, then attack (click) again, when the sword (attack icon) turns yellow or into a flame type thing. If you do this right you build up a chain of attacks. If you click every second, you end up canceling the attacks. And then you have the strong, quick and group attacks that make you think which is the best to use against different opponents.

About the attacks, it'll be explained when you get a few mins into the beginning, each attack, style, weapon are for different types of enemies, (humans, and monsters). And yeah if your playing on the hard mode IIRC, the hint on the attack cursor of the mouse is not there and you have to wait for the weapon to have a flaming effect or orange glow. Whilst in the easy/normal modes you have the mouse cursor to hint you when to click. I love this game! You guys made me want to re-install and replay it. :rockout:

It gets better when you reach chapter 2. The 1st chapter at first for me was kinda so so, but I reached the 2nd chapter, I got hooked.

I mentioned it in a different thread but figure I'd mention it here since people are talking about getting back into it. I played most of the game without playing with Signs or alchemy much. I used Aard some for one-shotting a lot of people, (be sure to carry a dagger in your small backpack/slot to try to get the supercool dagger "fatality" animation :)), but mostly Igni since I read so many posts in old threads around the net that said Igni is the only Sign really worth bothering with.

Then towards the end of the game I watched some youtube videos showing off how powerful and interesting the other Signs can be, but by then more talent points were hard to come by. So if you're new to the game, I recommend looking up the Signs first on a wiki and on youtube to have some kind of plan on what you might want your character path to take.

And while most fights didn't require alchemy so I hardly bothered with it, not only could I have been buffed up a lot if I had used it more, but it probably would have been more fun, too. So grab that Talent for figuring out plant ingredients/potions early on and stack up on your favorite potions and oils and whatnot. You'll want some Cats Eye potions on hand anyway, most likely. And you have to try Blizzard at least once for some slow (er, fast?) motion.

One of my favorite lines from a review is something like, "Combat consists of clicking on an opponent... once. And if you're really advanced, you click on him again." Which is true, actually. But once I got past that it's an RPG and not a shooter game, it was fun.

Elsewhere, I also mentioned how it's been quite awhile where I've finished a 30-60 hour game and immediately considered starting it over from the beginning again. I have Mass Effect on deck, though, so may put a repeat off.

I've seen some threads on sites where people tell newcomers to play the game "at least on Hard." I didn't want combat to annoy me in a 50-hour RPG when I started, (was just playing for the story and characters anyway), so I freely admit I played on Easy, and even that had a fight here or there that required multiple reloads and/or some luck and/or alchemy and/or some goofy tactics such as lighting them up with Igni and then running in circles while the damage over time worked them over.

Fighting the Kochkey whatever thing in a later chapter, even buffed up with diamond dust and Blizzard and whatever other potions I had on me, he repeatedly kicked my ass, and I wondered if that was going to put a stop to the game since I couldn't get past him. Fortunately, running in circles with Igni burning him worked. (And now I wonder if using an anti-stun potion would have worked, didn't have one at the time.) So if someone plans on playing more for the story than wanting to test their mettle at tougher combat, it's something to consider at the start since you can't change the difficulty later.
