Hey all,

Is my first post and I am a total newb. What I am looking for is some general advice on overclocking my Asus A9550GE 128mb card. I have been usin ATItool a bit and I have tried the omega drivers but like I said I am a total noob to this. I am wondering if there is any particular mark I should shoot for ? I have read that a core at 400 and mem 500 should be doable but am wondering if any of you have any experience with this card. If you wanna take a look at the card it is this one ( http://usa.asus.com/products/vga/a9550ge-td/overview.htm ) seems to be an ok "budget" card and well my system is probably very low end for most of you. Spec are:

1.7 ghz celeron ( oc'ed to 2 Ghz )
A9550GE Card
768 MB PC2700

then all the normal stuff for drives etc.

So as you can tell I would liek to get as much performance out of this card as I can. I do not play games above 1024x768 res as my system is just not gonna do it. So to end this rambling I just would like any suggestions you have for getting as much out of the system. Please don't bother to post stuff like buy a new processor...etc...I know this but am on a tight budget.

Thanks and take care,
Xalastin

You have the same card as me, you won't be able to do 250x2 for the RAM on that card very easily, as its 5ns Samsung, you'd need some MAJOR cooling on the RAM to get it that high and its still unlikely. The highest I've got mine to is 217, but the core can do 460+ no problem though, but of course the RAM speed does more for performance than core does. I'm trying to get some good RAM sinks and I'll let you know how it goes.

Hmm.. I have one point to add over OVERKILL's.. not every card (even if they are from the same manufacturer) are the same.. so the possibility of overclocking is also limited by several factors.. but if it's from the same manufacturer, there should be some similarities in terms of overclockability.. so you might not get as high as 460MHz for the core but most RV350 cores can do more than 400MHz.. mine top off at 445MHz.. stable at 440MHz.. and the RAM you might get higher overclocking rate.. mine is also Samsung 5ns RAMs.. but I managed to clock it to 240x2MHz with several tweaks in memory timings and no cooling YET.. :D But most memory perform differently.. so it's really a hit-or-miss affair.. :D

hey there,

Just a note my memory is actually "Hynix 435P" chips just checked...dunno if that is a good or limiting thing...thx for the replys though.

Hmm.. can you list out the whole serial numbers/all the numbers and letters printed on the RAM chip itself? I can't seem to know what speed it has from the description you gave.. :D

info

Sure that is :

Hynix 435P
HY5D4281622ET-5
KOR

So as a total newb my guess is that it is 5ns ram

hey guys?! good to be back!! :) anyway, Xalastin try to google "Hynix 435P
HY5D4281622ET-5" then find the thing that can link you to hynix data sheet then you can find the specs of your ram. asus a good brand. BTW, what's the default speed(core/mem) of your card? and what core did ATITool detect your card(RV350 or RV360)? coz you know, there is also one good 9550 brand out there, the one from GeCube---9550XT...comes with a better ram, an already OC'ed core(400Mhz) and way better stock cooling than any other 9550's out there... :)

From the serial number of the RAM.. I guess it's a 5ns RAM.. so my guess it that the stock memory speed is running at 200x2MHz DDR?

Stock Speeds

Hey there,

Stock speeds according to ATItool are 250 core / 200x2 Mem ( this card is the 128 bit version, there is a 64 bit one aswell dunno if that can help. Thanks again.

Hmm.. Looks like you really have 5ns RAMs.. so the core should scale much over 400MHz (depends on the cooling) but the RAM are already running at their default speed.. but you can still squeeze 10 or more MHz out of it.. try using the "Find Max Mem" feature in ATITool to find the maximum memory speed.. maybe with some cooling, you might get higher memory clocks.. :)
