I just upgraded my pc to a 4790k 16 gigs of ram and a gtx 970 with a h100 cooler. But i have a problems with smoothness of frames in games where i know my system can handle it and go above 60 fps. Now i have a somewhat older monitor a dell 3007wfp. I was wondering if the monitor i have could be the problem why i don't get a smooth 60fps why the colors don't look as rich as like what i see in other peoples gaming videos or even my best friends rig who has less system setup like mine.

What did you upgrade from? Installed the latest drivers from your motherboard manufacturer and nVidia?

If the actual frames per second count is averagely >59, the smoothness issue is just in your monitor, otherwise (as it seems from your message) you probably have some pending bios settings and driver issues.

Tell us more about your bios setup, which games show frame dips etc.

In case you didn't perform a fresh install and you have installed other gpu software before, try using display driver uninstaller, removing traces of old drivers.

As for colors and such, the issue is most likely your monitor only (not that you shouldn't try fine tuning its native saturation, brightness and contrast settings, and/or your card driver's).

upgraded from lanparty dk lt2rs x48 with q9450 and amd 7970 to a intel 4790k msi gaming 7 x79 and gtx 970 but i was wondering if my monitor is outdated for my system and causing video hangups because my system should be able to handle more stuff out there

it was a fresh install i'm running current drivers and bios msi has a update utility i use it regularly was thinking the monitor may have some sync issues its an 11ms monitor been trying to understand how monitors work. But I have problems no matter what games I play I mostly play diablo 3 some final fantasy X1V and BF4

Yep, your monitor is somewhat outdated for your current setup, but it can't mess with the actual frame count...

So, just to make sure, is the fps count averagely <59 (in each of those games)?

By bios settings I mean clock (I assume 4GHz for stock 4790k), multiplier, cpu voltage and so on. Man, you have an H100i, that thing can properly cool your cpu at 4.4GHz ("max" officially supported overclock/"boost").

Are your ram sticks correctly paired for dual channel (does cpu-z report they're running in dual channel)?

Also, motherboards sometimes set weird ram timings and frequency by default, you might check on that (compatibility with actual specs). Take a close look at voltage too.

If all the above is alright, you only need a new monitor, most likely.

PS: make sure only your dedicated gpu is enabled.
