be adequate to run games. Not necessarily high end games but some games none the less and if so which ones.

Toshiba Satellite 15.6 AMD A6-3400M Quad Core 6GB RAM 640GB HDD Backlit Keyboard $519

I was told by by Toshiba when I brought this to there attention this model was discontinued back in June 2012. It has literally all the specs I want including the tiled keyboard and key 's that are close together. The price is pretty decent I think as well. Thought's or opinions? If there's something better out there for less than $600 please let me know. Thanks.

I'd have to vote against it as well, Toshiba's build quality is at an all-time low. You can do better for $500-600. I'd look at Lenovo and Fujitsu, as they seem to be built fairly good, with much-needed adequate cooling systems and durable frames. Samsungs and some Asus models are fine as well.

I noticed that one also, but I hate when there are no user reviews and I read some low score user reviews on other similar lenovo models.

Meh, I never really pay attention to user reviews because they are all BS especially if its a known great product from reviews on forum sites like here, and then give it like 1 star or egg for something that is clearly user error. Its just dumb.

LOL Toshiba's quality is fine and well respected throughout the industry. The laptop is not weak. It is what it is a mainstream laptop but the graphics are not the best for gaming. This is far from a gaming laptop and not intended to be. Mild gaming at best. Mx does not explain things the best as his standards are never met. LOL

Because the build quality is shit. Whatever is the cheapest plastic they could have used, well they used it. I could take the screen and bend it in half with not mush effort if i wanted too. Yeah its not a high end laptop, but ive seen Asus, Samsung, and Sony laptops for the same price with build quality leaps and bounds higher.

so embelish, what is the problem with Toshiba laptops. They don't make anything inside. LOL

it is a $500 laptop and nobody makes them like kriptonite. HP, Toshiba, ect... they are mainstream laptops. A Sony laptop at that price will NOT have the same components Mx.

embellish? you do know you used the completely wrong word for your statement? spend a little bit of time in remedial english (i'm sure there are a few online courses...)

anyway...the hard drive is toshiba's, and the hdd always fails. always. then theres the build material that mxphenom already stated above. He is right..they are made of the cheapest materials possible. Asus and Samsung computers are in Toshiba's price segment across the board, and they are both much better quality wise than Toshiba

Always fail? LOL...... Only component inside that is Toshiba's is the drive. The case composite is very similiar through most manufacturers at the price point. Some use slightly beter plastic but as mentioned, the thread is NOT about the composite or drive.

It is a $500 laptop, mainstream. All I have to add. Not arguing just staing opinion for OP. I would not be afraid of the Toshiba OP. Like mentioned, it is not high end, will not be a great gaming laptop but will perform OK for games that are not CPU or GPU intensive. A good bang for the buck.

Stay away from Toshiba right now. Their build quality is not good, and their product are filled with more bloatware than HP. Plus, for what you want to do, the Toshiba you list isn't a good fit. One of those A10 models would suit you better.

eh, I have a "cheap" Toshiba. A C655D-S5332 model to be exact. Paid alittle under $300 for it on sale about a year and a half ago. Aside from spilling a drink on the keyboard and having to replace that(about $20), it still works great, and is normally running at full load running WCG Bionic. I don't use it for gaming, but it does just fine for my college assignments and watching videos.

Keyboard CM Storm Quickfire Pro (MX Red)
For every product one can always find a certain number of satisfied users, and a certain number of those less fortunate or happy with their purchase. Single instances, meaning individual users having one unit, will have exactly 50% chance of getting a fine product, and another 50% chance of having to RMA their unit.

I work at an IT distributor, as a service/electronics tech, and I see hundreds of laptops come and go each month. From my personal experience I can tell you that recent Toshiba laptops (meaning up to 3 years old) have shown a tangible, steady decline in quality, in every aspect. Cooling, plastic frame/body, keyboard, screen, soldering quality (can't count the number of reballs/reflows, really), etc. are all lagging behind most other vendors. Buy a Qosmio, you're golden. But take a < ~$750 laptop, and you're really pushing your luck. HP don't know how to do cheap either. There are more examples, like MSI CR500 or the old V(R)610(X), whose brass screen hinges would pop out of the plastic, making users do botch-repairs or buy salvaged casings. In MSI's defense, they seem to be stepping up their game slowly, and so is Acer, but they're not yet there, IMHO.

If you're going for a cheap laptop, you do not want high-performance parts in an inadequate chassis. It's analogous to overclocking a desktop machine on stock coolers inside a case with one unpopulated 80mm fan mount. Sure, it may very well work, but for how long? And how stable? It's never really all about performance. You have to choose the right balance between maximum performance and minimum acceptable stability and durability, while hitting a certain price point.

Toshiba cannot do it in recent years. Here's hoping they change for the better, and soon.
