The free alternatives have been working for me for about a decade.

We do use this at work and it is immaculate.

Yes, good fine but if you keep a look out at Fry's they have the MIR that normally make it a real steal like this one http://www.frys.com/product/6829916?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Quite a few places offer software for free or almost free after rebates.
Newegg had Kaspersky IS 2013 and the regular A/V free after rebate a couple of weeks ago; so, it does help to shop around.

Mine is free with my bank account. I had been buying it previously, so it was great when they started offering it. It's the three licence one year version, too.
