//Problem description//

PC gets a blackscreen at random moments, most of the time when I play games. Almost everytime, the HDMI signal will be lost but i'll still be able to hear the sound of the app I was using.

The only way to solve it is for me to restart my computer each time it happens.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

//What I tried//

At first, I thought it was my monitor. I bought a new monitor, made no difference.

Then...

The GPU. I replaced it with a RADEON RX480 and got the latest driver. Did not solve it.

My CPU (it was actually overheating reaching 100C often). I bought a new CPU cooler and applied thermal paste. Didn't solve it.

Honestly, I don't know what to blame anymore. PSU ? still Temperatures ?

Shoud I try a memtest86 ?

I'm getting desperate.

Report after two crashes (of many) are attached.

//clarifications & replies//
+- 80% of the time i'll be able to hear the sound of the app i was using.

+- The image turns completely black with an HDMI logo (probably because it's looking for it).

+- The sound is not looped. I remember that i was on a skype call once and that i could still talk to the person and had to tell her that i had to restart my pc to get rid of the black screen.

+- My previous GPU was a Radeon HD 7950. Instead of losing HDMI signal i had vertical / horizontal stripes all over the screen (because i was using a DVI cable i presume). I could still hear the sound too.

+- I started using my 2nd PCIe slot once i started to have the blackscreen problem.

+- My Monitor can go up to 72FPS, but i'm almost always at 60FPS for every game except one (and i get the black screen across multiple games). On a side note i'll start using 60FPS no matter the game.

+- I played 2 games with my onboard Intel HD Graphics and I didn't get a single blackscreen. I'll keep testing with it a bit more.

Did you ever try a different HDMI cable or DVI cable?

Always try the easiest stuff first. Like disabling the IGPU in the bios

Try only using the IGPU with no dedicated graphics at all

My other GPU used a DVI cable. With my new monitor a got a brand new HDMI cable.

Okay, i'll try playing League of Legends with the IGPU. It crashed 2-3 times in a single 30-60m game last time i played it with my RX480.

Update #1 : I crashed 20m in game with the disabled IGPU.

Update #2 (using the IGPU) : Was able to finish the game without losing HDMI signal. Going to test another one.

I'm starting to think that it might be a problem with the interaction between my GPUs and my PSU/motherboard. My previous GPU was a Radeon HD 7950. Instead of losing HDMI signal i had vertical / horizontal stripes all over the screen (because i was using a DVI cable i presume). I could still hear the sound too.

What resolution are you playing at?
If in 4k, you may need to check the hdmi cable specs closely.. There are a lot that I have heard, can't really run in 4k and are having that issue.

Can you clarify what is actually happening - some of your wording in the OP was contradictory.
Is it a sudden shut down, or is it freezing and losing image?

If its shutting down completely, there could not be any audio/sounds playing and that would imply PSU.

If its crashing to a black or corrupted screen (with or without looping audio) and you've changed GPU, that implies an unstable system - probably RAM.

fill that out. its easier for some of us to see.

What case? are you still overheating the CPU? I think ya, do a thorough ram test.

have you tried running with the side off the case?

also, upload the actual log files. install gpu-z and save and upload a log file monitoring temps and stuff.

For me it sounds like the pci-e part of the Mainboard is defect why else should igpu work normal and d gpu not? Try reseating the gpu on another slot on the Mainboard and test again.

if a PCI-E GPU was cutting in and out of that slot, the system would crash horribly, not continue working normally.

well thats strange, that really does imply that the cable or monitor is at fault.

You've ruled out the video card due to trying to, so you genuinely are stuck at things external to the PC - namely the monitor and how its linked to the PC.

Can you use DVI to that monitor instead?

you say 50-72Hz, can you clarify that? Is this monitor overclocked, are you running 60Hz when the issues appear?
Did we rule out the video card ? Because so far when I am using my Intel HD graphics it is working but it is not when I am using my RX480 and when i was using my previous GPU.

It is meant to be 60hz. But it can support up to 72hz.

I switched the PCIe i was using when i got my new RX480.

try not to multiple post, we have an edit button.

To clarify: You had issues with your previous GPU and your new GPU, but not with onboard, yes?

If you're running a 60Hz monitor at 72Hz, just run it at 60 and see what happens. Blanking out sounds exactly like what a monitor overclocked too far could do, HDMI is not good for monitor overclocking.

Sorry, I deleted my previous posts and made a list of clarifications & replies in my original post.

fill that out. its easier for some of us to see.

What case? are you still overheating the CPU? I think ya, do a thorough ram test.

have you tried running with the side off the case?

also, upload the actual log files. install gpu-z and save and upload a log file monitoring temps and stuff.

Hi, as you requested I filled the information page about my specs (you'll see my case there).

My CPU is no longer overheating.
The 2 files attached are actual logs of the temps of my system.
They were both taken once my CPU had a new cooling system installed with thermal paste.
They were both taken right after a black screen, once I rebooted my PC.

I installed GPU-Z and I am about to start running my games with my main GPU again instead of the onboard one.
I'll upload a GPU-Z file when i'm not running anything too heavy (no black screen) and another one right after I get a black screen.

So just confirming the integrated graphics work fine?

Try using the second pci-e slot for the GPU. You may have a damaged slot

Also are you using Lucid Virtu by chance?

Yes, the IGPU works perfectly. I did have to lower my settings otherwise it was lagging too much. I was running 60 fps no problem and got not black screen.
I experienced black screens on both pci-e slots. Unless both are damaged i'm not sure it would make a difference.
I am still willing to change the slot i'm using if you think it could still be useful to do it.
I am not using Lucid Virtu (never heard about it).

Something pretty crazy just happened. As soon as i sent this post my pc COMPLETELY turned off. It was not a blackscreen this time. It seems like most of the time I was experiencing black screen but that on rare occasions i do also experience complete shutdown like this one.

On a side note, i just started using my main GPU again. I don't think this is a coincidence. I was only running google chrome and Skype.

Try updating Direct X

Windows 7? or 10
Windows 10.
Here's a GPU-Z sensor file that i just saved.
Here is also the main GPU-Z graphics card tab.

I'll update Direct X to the latest version.
It is already updated to the latest version (DX12).

if its complete shutdowns, then somethings overheated or the PSU is failing.
Intermittent PSU failures can be very strange, as bad power causes other parts to fail at different times.

Your Corsair GS700 is from a good brand, but its also one of their weaker offerings - it could well be failing. Is it full of dust?

Yes. I haven't cleaned this PSU. Ever. In like 3-4 years.

maybe clean that out then. hold the fan blades in place with something non-metallic (q-tip/cotton bud, whatever they call it in your country) and blow it out with compressed air.
