Keep on XP or jump into Vista???

Today finally I upgrade my entire system (see my specs), but I still work under XP, my new VGA supports Vista and the new DX10 and in some 3DMark06 scores I see using Vista trow more points than XP.....but I cannot find any up-to-date info about XP vs Vista.

So, I wanna ask you if today Vista are strong enough to make a jump into it's boat....or I should keep sailing with XP....

with sp1 for vista out, vista is now about as fast as xp(I've actually ran some test like timing how long it takes to do a full reboot on both, copy/pasting folders in both, and running applications/game patches on both). Currently I'm having a problem with my xp install, so I'm stuck just using my vista install, and the more I use it, the more I'm liking it.

personally id say vista but its a pain in the arris as its taken me ages to get my rig working hoow i like but vista is good

how much ram u got and are you looking at vista 64 or 32

vista 32 bit is ok with 2gb ram its just the tweaking to get is up to speed thats a pain

I dual-boot with XP and Vista. Originally I did this because I didn't really want to use Vista, but my job required that I have it installed. I installed it about a month ago, and while I had some issues setting it up, I actually like it and haven't booted into my XP install in about 2 weeks. I say go with Vista.

your system is fast and modern enough, so go vista x64.

Just google when things annoy you (UAC, windows defender, sidebar) and you'll find out that you can turn them all off and get a happy snappy OS which is far more stable than XP ever was.

I'd have to say vista too.

And as for staying with xp till windows 7 comes along mmmmm.Thats asuming windows 7 works fine straight on release,and considering m$ record on that front.....yeah right.Plus the fact that at some point a great game will come out that runs great and is a good game,but requires dx10 only.Wait and see all the xp`ites run to vista then and abandon xp like a sinking ship. /rant

I say go to Vista - it is better in many ways. XP is more cozy and familier, but why upgrading if you'll use the same old OS? There is some learning curve, but ones you get use to it you'll love it.

I've had very few problems with Vista, been using it for weeks now. Only issue I had was with my onboard sound not getting used by Bioshock. Easy enough to fix when I found out what the problem was.

Its not that different from XP, and you get to play all the "Games for Windows" that they refuse to release on XP. Evolution deems Vista necessary. Windows 7 comes out next year sometime if you really want to wait, but who's to say that it'll be any better? If you have the opportunity, just upgrade. With your hardware there shouldn't be any issues.

why x64, theres no noticable difference between it and x86 and you only have 2gb ram if anything x64 uses a bit more ram

Because you can use a lot more than 2gb of ram, and its not that far off in the future that you'll actually NEED it. Not to mention the fact that 4gb is much better than 2gb anyways.

I've got both XP and Vista. Vista is different to use even though it looks almost the same and does have a steep learning curve but is a much better choice once you have set it up. Be prepared to be confused for a few weeks and go with Vista, you'll never look back.

the learning curve isnt that steep and i think vista 64 is actually quicker as long as you have the ram from what i can see the principles of vista are very similar to xp
