Kind of a noob question, but im scared.

I just got a EVGA X58 SLI mobo, and it's going to take about 2 months to get the i7 920 and 6GB of DDR3 RAM.

So i was wondering if it was ok if i just left the mobo in the plastic shell and box till i get the CPU and RAM. The box is on the carpet but i don't think static will get to the board since the mobo is in the plastic shell. Would it be ok to leave it like that for a couple months?

I did open it up just to get all the accessories out and take a look at the board.

If you'd make the question slightly quicker you'd have spare time to come up with a better thread title. After 3708 posts you should know the guidelines.

And no, the board won't explode on the floor, that's what the packaging is for. You or your mom can still step on it though. I'm assuming you live with your mom since you don't have the space to keep the board in a safe place, in case you wondered.

I made a representation (in notepad, not sure why) of your "Hitlerless" TPU forums:

One of those threads contains a question about time travel to which I just found the answer. The thread was started by an extremely hot chick who will fellatio me if I help her out. Unfortunately I forgot what thread it was, could you help me find it? If you can she will go back in time to kill Hitler.

Sidenote: If we succeed I will start a thread "Hey, where did the kitlersite go?"

When you assume you make an ass out of u and me.
Or dog, girlfriend, giant killer robot. Point is It's never recommended to keep stuff on the ground.

When i said that its on the ground, i was not saying its sitting in the middle of the floor. The mobo is in the plastic shell molding it came and that is inside the actual box. The actual box is standing up in a corner, on the carpet, next to my dead 360.

I shouldnt lol, but I will

I agree, you should NEVER leave hardware lying around on the floor. Even if it is in the box. It can be stepped on, kicked etc etc

Hey C5...I wouldn't worry about the mobo laying around in the packaging for months. That is exactly what happens in the warehouse. It lays around on a distributers shelf until it's sold.
And I am going to be in the same situation as you are. I am building a new rig and buying the parts piece by piece as the "extra" play money comes in. So I will have a mobo sitting around for awhile too. Well, I will have the case tomorrow, so at least my mobo won't be on the floor. But still, similar situation.
Good luck on your new build.
BTW, is that the "Classified" model mobo?

I glue my computer parts to the cieling out of fear of stepping on them. Then I take them off out of fear of them falling on my face, put it on the shelf. I then take it off the shelf out of fear the cat will throw up in the packaging, put it on the wall. Then I take it off the wall fearing an earthquake will knock the wall over on top of the product, so I take it off of the wall. Then I bury it in the yard fearing the house' collapse brought on by another earthquake. Then I dig it up because I don't want it to be flooded and hide it in a safety deposit box. Then I take it out because I'm afraid the bank will be robbed, etc.

It should be fine.

Is it a new motherboard or a used one? If it's new you may want to be careful and register it first since you can't test it you don't know if you'll need to RMA it.

It is never recommended to keep motherboards anywhere but in a full build. Keeping the motherboard in the box will eventually cause your brain to explode from wanting to test it, and the only way around this is to buy the rest of the hardware for the build, which can result in pockets with holes burned in them. The best place for an unused motherboard is on the store shelf (or website warehouse, etc)

while if it was an X58 mobo I may be a bit more careful here is how I stack mobos in my closet (several mos at a time)

Keep it in its wrapper and dont step on it and you'll be fine

Yes, most (if not all) electrical components can be stored below freezing point :)

Also the main thing you need to worry about is not the cold itself, but the humidity changes what could cause condensation and cause a fatal problem when you wan't to use your board... or any other component stored in the same manor.

As long as you don't jump on the bed, it should be fine.

I know plenty about computer hardware, but from all my years toying with computers, i have never had to put a motherboard under a bed or any place else besides into a case.

So im being very careful and asking questions to mae sure nothng happens to my ever so expensive X58 mobo.

I don't postwhore, you can check all my previous posts, you can see i always try to help one way or another.;)

I can appreciate you trying to help others, I used to help others myself. I gave up on doing that recently. Too many lazy dumbshits out here that refuse to take the time to read. Take no offence to my comments, I have read many of your posts, that's why I thought you should know the answers to your questions already. I'm surprised you would ask them. Thus, the postwhore comment.

OK... How cold? As long as we're not talking below freezing point, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Besides, is it that hard to find a place in your home where you can store it without having to ask if it's safe? You're making us think you live in the danger room or something.

Definitely not below freezing.

And yes its very hard, this apartment is about the size of a single room in most houses. It's a very cheap and very small place with every corner being taken up by something.
