Indeed, it's aimed at miners, and I don't mean real men that actually worked hard for their money.

Mining is a job if you don't want your house or facility to burn down. I speak from experience. If you want to make anything meaningful at it, you will work, just like any other human being. Parts fail daily in large farms and locating and replacing them without bringing other facilities down is its own art. Heat managment becomes difficult, and if you understand thermal dynamics as well as many of our members here recently demonstrated by thinking their heatsinks actually lower their room temp, you will have a fire.

Unless of course, you are basically implying IT and high end thermal management is not a legit line of work.

EDIT: Somehow I missed the "hard" word in your post. Appologies in advance, yeah, it's not as "hard" of labor as a coal miner, I'll hand you that.

Stupid notions are like belly buttons apparently. but seriously, if anyone actually believed that , they may need to invest in a helmet.

The point of using normal cards for mining was that at the EOL, people sold them on used goods markets as any other graphic card. And they sold quickly since you can't tell which one was for mining and which one wasn't. With these, I don't know, they lack this thing and they'll imo be hard to sell afterwards, meaning people won't really decide for them in the first place.

If they ain't destroyed from accelerated electro migration you can buy the used ones then for a few bucks and use them for any other CUDA application, e.g. Folding@Home

But how many use them for gaming and how many use them for such specific tasks? Meaning they'll still be hard to sell, even if ridiculously cheap. With no video outputs, they are no use to 90% of people.

I looked around a bit

About 19 million F@H users, app. 1 million with NVIDIA GPUs
http://folding.stanford.edu/stats/os

There are even enthusiasts with folding farms (instead of mining farms)

If somebody would come up with the genius to do low budget dual GPU card like a cheaper pro duo or something of the like but with 2 480/580s as standalone GPUs as mining cards it'd fly off shelves.
