Laptop Fan Wont Spin

title says it all.
last night, in the middle of an essay, my laptop forcefully shutdown.
i wondered why until i felt the bottom of it. it almost burnt my hand, it was incredibly hot.
now ive been keeping a close eye on it and i have found out that the only cooling fan on the laptop wont spin. im not sure if it has a temperature threshold or is just broken.

what would you guys suggest be the best cause of action (to both finding out for sure why its doing it, and how to fix it?)?

Is it possible Win7 may have caused his temp threshold to vanish and thus not engage the fan?

Maybe the fan is just broken. How long have you had it?

he just said, and win 7 would have nothing to do with it, the fan on a lappie is controlled by the bios.

take it apart and clean it man

i can't really see the fan failing after only 5 month's of use, i would attribute it to a software issue, how long have you been running window's 7?

i would reccomend purchasing a notebook cooler to help keep it cool and happy

i know i could shure use one on this hp ze4400 :laugh:

are you people ignoring what i said??

i've done this before. windows 7 has nothing to do with it. the fan on a laptop is driven by the bios. And when the chip gets hot the fan spins.

i can be 99% its dirty and clogged and is not letting it spin.

blow it out. if that doesn't work, take it apart and check the fan.

the fan may be broken, but its not software related.

thanks freaksavior. i agree with you about it being BIOS controlled.
for the others: i have had windows 7 installed when the RC first got LEAKED
it it would have nothing at all to do with windows at all, so no more questions about it
