Laptop Screen for PC?

I'm building a second PC today and bought a new screen to go with it but that won't arrive till monday. My friend and I would like to play some games on LAN this weekend, but all I have is the screen I use now and a laptop. I've heard of using regular monitors to work with laptops, but is there a way to get a desktop to display on a laptops screen?

If you can connect the monitor you got to one PC, you could run a VNC server on it and then disconnect the monitor and run the VNC client from the laptop, although I don't know if you will see the DirectX overlay and how much the lag will be, but it's worth a shot and there's a free version, so it's worth giving it a shot, won't take more than 5 minutes, especially if you download VNC from ninite.com, so you don't need to sign up to download.
