Laptop thermal shutdown :(

So I have got a laptop - model HP 430
Config:
Intel Pentium Dual Core B960 2.2 GHz Sandy Bridge
3 GB DDR 3 RAM 1333 MHz
500 GB HDD and all.....
The problem is every 4 months or so the laptop faces thermal shutdown until I take apart and service the whole unit(replace thermal paste and clean the heatsink and fan). After around 4 months again, it is back again. :banghead:

The laptop is given by our college and everyone has the same problem except for them- they don't know how to service one.

So is there any tip from you guys to prevent the recurrence of this thermal event again and again?

Nope, you just need to service it regularly. or throttle it, but its not ideal.

Exactly. I think HP has got a weak cooling solution for maybe these series of laptops. My friend has a Sony VAIO E Series laptop(Intel Core i3 2.53 GHz) and using it for over 1.5 years without a issue.
Edited- Also the laptop automatically throttles once it's temps touch around 80 degree C and finally shuts down at 85 degree C.

You can try installing a shim (piece of copper between heatsink and processor) if you are feeling adventurous, it helps sometimes.

Ok I will try that next time and report back here. By the way, I used Cooler Master IC Essential as the thermal compound. How is it?

Try a different thermal paste next service. I'm sure that will make a difference.

I used higher end paste on my moms laptop few years ago and still runs great.

I recommend ceramique or arctic alumina for laptops.

Till date, I used the following thermal pastes for the laptop servicing
1. Cooler Master Thermal Fusion 400
2. IC Diamond 24(Review sample given on TechpowerUp)
3. Cooler Master IC essential.

And everytime I took apart the heatsink, the thermal compound didn't dry at all but the heatsink fins near the fan are filled with dust. For opening the fan, I have to remove the whole heatsink and thus reapply new paste.
