laptop usb problems -_-

Just bought a Aspire 5551G and plugged up something in the usb on the right side and it worked fine, tuned it off plugged in my mouse again and it blinks and dosen't work, if I plug it in on the left it will work, so i plugged in a joystick and a hdd, both do the same thing on the right side, tried a pendrive it works fine in that port, wtf i thought so i called acer earlier, they were no help.

anybody know what can be wrong, it seems like a power problem but im not sure.

maybe one or more pins are not making contact ?, So maybe try a usb extension ?.

You can check what power usage in device manager.

it dosen't show anything for the devices with the problems

I checked a schematic, the schematic shows that the usb port on the left that works fine is on the motherboard, the 2 on the right with the problems are seperate on a daughterboard, so im thinking theres a problem with the daughterboard and its power on those 2 ports

problem is i hook up other hdd's and zunes and my cellphone, they all work and charge fine but things like keyboards, mice, and joysticks don't work they blink off and on and show nothing in device manager, i can only guess its a driver problem or its that daughterboard but I have to take the entire thing apart to get to it.

And here's me thinking that a cellphone \ HDD's would take more power than a joystick ..

physical damage or driver....but i doubt the chipset driver the most.

On the right side (and back) of my Asus laptop I get USB 2.0 at higher voltage than the left ports. This is also true with my Acer Netbook. Laptop manufacturers meant one side to be high power, and one to be lower power. On the low power side, I cannot run my mouse or keyboard, but I can run a USB drive. It is just how laptops are configured.

no but after checking 360 joysticks and other stuff works too its just that some things don't get enough voltage, i think its supposed to be that way because nothing is damaged

if it blink means it has power on it, have u check it on device manager from control panel? try to slot in the usb and see how it works, if it readable theres notification on it
if it aint works try to uninstalling then restart, after restart the system should detect new hardware on it and begin installing driver that needed then try again
