So I fancy myself as in the know as far as gaming hardware goes. See my specs if you need more explanition.

Anyway I had now idea that what I was doing was so wrong. WAY WRONG.

I had an old Microsoft Optical Mouse USB/PS2 plugged in through PS2.

From what I read this was way worng. PS2 will only let you get like 400dpi. USB won't hinder your mouses' preformance. So I fixed that by plugging it in through USB.

Then I was talking w/ a co-worker about my mistake and I was laughed at. I had said I wanted the same mouse my friend has the Logictec "G7". He laughed because I sad G7 Optical mouse.
It is not optial it is laser and that makes all the difference. He then explained that that most new high end mice use lasers instead of optical sensors and they work differeently too.

In the end I was told to go get a Wireless Laser mouse to dirve my $2500+ Box instead of using such an antiquated pieace of crap in the worng port.

This was a humbling experience. So I went out and got a Microsoft Wireless Laser 6000 mouse w/ a 1000dpi Laser and a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard. (combo for $99 and I paid $50) I am stationed over in the UK so I have to by what the Base Exchange has in dollars instead of pounds.

So what do you use. Optical or Laser?

I use Laser of course. The Logitech G5 Laser Gaming mouse (Wired). I use 1600-2000 DPI for Unreal Tournament 2004, but when I go to Counter-Strike: Source, I use 400-800 DPI. For any game, no matter what, I use 400 DPI for any Sniper-Type weapon.

Wired or Wireless doesn't really bother me, so I save money and got the G5, but I know that the G7 is just as good, but wireless.

I wish I could have waited and gone w/ logitec. But I am sure I will be getting a "G7" for Christmas from my wife. I saw the Credit Card log showed $66 from Newegg so I logged in and checked it out and my dear wife has purchased that for me and even the right color "black" I swear I love this woman more every day.

P.S. She got me my 7900GT KO for our 5 year Anniversarry back in Aug.

It's not like it's a one way thing I sent her to Paris w/ her girlfirend this weekend. They are doing the whole euro disney thing.

I guess that is why I am typing here. My 4 year old lacks adult conversation.

Anyway that is enought about my personal life. Sorry for the extra info not hardware related.

Can't wait for the G7.

well that ps/2 limitation is a load of bullshit. quite simply a mouse cant send info as fast as usb therfore cant be as sensitive and precise as usb. so yeah usb is better but not required by any means. the only difference with laser and optical is the strength of light. the mx1000/g5/g7 run higher dpi as their image sensors can be more acurate. this also makes them finiky with black mousepads or certain surfaces.

i personally use a mx518 on a sanded wood desk. i cant stand any other mouse due to the button layout. 2 of my friends liked mine so much they got one for themselves.

When shopping for my computer, I noticed that the $50 I could have spent on an uber-mouse was slightly better spent on video card power, so I just use the wireless Microsoft mouse my parents have (I think it's optical) :).

 I know how you feel...a bad monitor can make a good computer look like crap, and a good monitor can make a bad computer looks nice :). I had that happen at my cousins house once...the monitor seemed locked at 60hz and made Republic Commando (UT2004 engine) look like the original Playstation, while the monitor I have makes my computer look better then Xbox360 :D (I love Samsung). Though, I suppose if you're lagging a bunch, you don't really notice the shiny and just want the computer to get a little higher then 5fps lol.

The "Carbon Fiber" ones look like the shit. Man, I wish they had that for the G5, but the "rust" look makes it look good too.

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
I use a logitech optical mousie, with my spongebob mousepad and an old Gateway 17" monitor, but at 1280X1024 I get 85Hz and it is crystal clear.

Right next to a couple grand worth of hardware. I spent more on the fiber optic cable to connect my compy to the reciever than on the monitor.

lasers are technicly optical devices, just not the same optical as using a led and optical sencor found in older optical mice, i use a cheapo logitech mouse most of the time and it works fine for gaming, used an mx1000 for gaming for a while but it didnt work as well(due to older form of wireless, the g7 clears that up) i get a good laught out of people i kill who cant belive i use a cheapo mouse when they have a 200$ mouse(top end razors and crap, dont make me laugh) on a allsop mouse pad i have had for years(since my k2-400@550 days) :) (acctualy allsop pads are great had a stack of them sold them for 5bucks each(gto free) to buddys, everybody still games with them one even offered me his exact mat since he liked the allsop better, wish i had taken it but i didnt want to constantly replace mouse feet like he had to ROFL)

Dippy, you may not but alot of people have reported interference with other wireless devices or in the case of my other room the power for that part of the house runs thru a panil on the main wall of the room, it interfears with wireless network, keyboards, mice, radio, cordless phone pretty much anything u can think of thats wireless it messes with the signal, move them to another room and bam problems cleared up(sux tho because that room otherwise is a PERFECT office....)

p.s. this is where the post from the sata thred was sposta be

so i will say it again

Sorry Dippyskoodlez for posting a link to a place i thought could help people you clearly think its spam, dispite a mod not agreeing after we talked, sorry for trying to be helpfull, i wont post links anymore since they offend you and some of the other forums dwellers here.

pps, is there an ignor function on this forum, if so feel free to put me on ignor if you dont like my posts(anybody/everybody who dosnt like how/what i post) please feel free to just ignor my excistance :)
