Latest Adblock Update breaks images on TPU

Turns out uBlock Origin was enabled for TPU even though I had white listed TPU before. Wonder if it happened when uBlock Origin some how reset preferences.

adblockers are more trouble than they are worth. too many sites I visit have that "hey, a**hole disable your adblocker" message.

we need an adblocker blocker lol

For real. I'm at a point with it now where if you do more than ask me nicely, I'm not gonna disable it for you, because I'm not invested enough in your content that it's worth my time to see if you're honest or not. I'm probably just gonna click away. For sites who's content I care about, happy to add the exception. Some random jaggoff's bullshit article that I don't even really care much about? No way. At that point, the exchange reads to me like "I deserve money for wasting your time and foisting onto you a bunch of things you don't want, just to SEE if I MIGHT have something you want. You need to just work for my money or all of this will disappear." Which ironically was the whole reason adblockers took off in the first place. It's like... "Okay, let it." I know for me, that's the whole deal. I'm tired of dealing with them everywhere I go, for things I don't want, to support things I ultimately got nothing of value from.

It's like, good luck man. If it's important information to me, I'll find another source for it. That's how important information works... it doesn't stay confined in one place. I dunno, maybe other people operate differently, but for me, they are sadly mistaken if they think I need their content that badly. All of the strong-armed begging that's surfaced in response to the advent of adblockers has kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't want to sound entitled, but there are ways of going about this stuff... trying to make people feel bad while also attempting to remove the choice from them that they *just* took for themselves probably isn't making anyone look better. It only shows how little they understand about the problem that's led us to this point. Most people will tolerate some ads. The reason we all stopped tolerating it because it went beyond too far. And the proof is in the answer given by a lot of these anti-adblocker measures. You're basically telling me you are exactly who I thought you were when I enabled the damned thing. It makes me think I can't trust that there isn't gonna be a wall of ads behind that grayed-out screen. I've already seen my first pop-up at that point. Which really, how is it any different? A box pops up, you do what it says, and you see ads. How is that functionally different from a regular pop-up?

My usual procedure is simple. If it's a 'soft' request, I won't immediately unblock. And if I see that the majority of your content is only out to capitalize on my attention, it stays that way. But if what I see has some value to me beyond information junk food and what I see there is enough to suggest that maybe that ad money is going towards something that ought to exist (and it doesn't have to be monumental,) I add the exception. It's easy to do that, but I'm not going to consider it if the respect isn't there. Try to force me to respect you, and you've already lost it. No sympathy for that crap. Only shows how little they care about the people who make them their money.

Which reminds me, I didn't even know there was a problem, as I allow ads for TPU. :D

I've noticed some of the Youtube creators are getting carried with the ad placements in their videos. If there's more than four ads I don't even bother watching.

never had this issue once my entire time using ublock origin, over a several year period. you have to manually change these in ublock origin's settings though. Below are my personal settings, I just check all of them. I never seem to have any issues.

same, and I don't even watch much youtube anymore these days thankfully. I watch a video Linus had this morning about 300hz laptop display, but his ads are predictable and easy to skip. and he usually blubbers for first few mins anyway so i just skip all of it. I haven't seen an ad in many years, I can confirm, my life has been amazing. yolo

I can confirm the missing custom avatars using Brave on mobile.

For me it was Ghostery mozilla extension that was causing the issue

I use uBlock Origin and the main website has black background, is that normal?

Technically it's not Adblock Plus that's the problem, it's EasyList which is one of the blocklists you can use in ABP and uBlock Origin. Seems ABP has a more recent version than uBlock which is why the latter still works.

yes, we're running a wallpaper atm which has a black background, i guess the wallpaper itself gets blocked, but not the background

most people don't know "easylist", which is why i used "ad block" for awareness. in the end every ad blocking software uses easylist to some degree

These are just short 30 second hiccups, not exactly sure yet on the cause

dont notice any issue, i browser with phone all the time:D

Well ya twisted my arm (/s), ublock origin now disabled on TPU

I think my pihole is catching stuff now tho. I see the pictures but the ads are not there. Any idea what I would whitelist on the pihole to allow ads? I don't mind doing that

Don't worry, Wiz... TPU will be in whitelist forever!

Hi,
Use Ublock Origin instead and never look back at adblock again.

I noticed that there are filters that are already included in other previous, so times they would be activated twice. this has also caused me the one or other problem.
fanboy annoyances e.g.
i confess i use it too. but it runs flawlessly for me

Added a workaround for that broken ubo filter, for news images only, not sure about other areas that are affected

UBo has been causing problems with all attachment images for me since a few days ago. None of my picture attachments uploaded to TPU worked (they're attached in the post, but blank space where I added to the post), I had to use imgur links for all my images, annoying because I can't have thumbnail size for a URL. Wasn't sure exactly what was going on, seemed like incognito not-signed-in made the images show up.

No issues for other pics on the site.

It still causes problems unless I turn it off. I didn't connect the dots in my head to the adblocker d'oh :banghead: I put TPU on the whitelist and voila, no more problems. Not sure why exactly I didn't have it on the whitelist to begin with...

ah yes, that's definitely something that will be affected. the filter blocks everything that links back to the "www.techpowerup.com" domain, which is definitely the case for picture attachments. make sure to report it to them

I always use uBlock Origin/the default blocker from Brave - never had an issue.
