Hello again.
I need some advice in matching a nice LCD monitior for my
Sapphire x850xt agp video card.

I want to get a 22'' widescreen, but if that is too much for the video card to handle, then point me to a good 19'' monitor.

The card can support Widescreen; the issue is 'will the game or application'? A 22" LCD monitor should be fine.

Yeah it would be fine with a 22", but dont expect to play the latest games at max settings with max pixels ;)

I primarily play first person shooters and racing games.
Need 4 Speed Most Wanted and Prey are my favorites and I need to know if they would support widescreen.
I might just go with a 19'' widescreen instead because I want to keep cost down and keep a resolution that would not slow down the video card.
And one other question, what is the proper refresh rate for a 19'' widescreen?

Anything from 60-100Htz is a good refresh rate. There are a fair couple of games that support widescreen :)

Get yourself the biggest highest resolution TFT you can afford. Even if your X850XT cant drive the MAXIMUM res with max effects, you can always dial back the resolution. It will still look good.

And you will be grateful for a hi-res TFT for all your 2D desktop work. Just switch on cleartype and "large fonts" and "large icons" and your desktop will look very nice.

Go for 1600x1200 or 1920x1200.

Native resolution would be a major problem with a high resolution monitor like that. Running a game out of it on any LCD severely degrades image quality.

As an owner of a 22" widescreen, its time for me to jump in with the big facts.

Native res: 22" wides use 1680x1050 - if you lower it to say, 1280x1024, you will STRETCH to fill the screen. ATI are meant to have a driver option to fix this, it DOES NOT work. I went to Nvidia over this issue, it occured with any drivers, on my x300se x550, X1650, X1900GT, X1900XT,
but even Nvidia onboard works fine by adding black bars around the edges (think similar to widescreen movies on a 4:3 monitor)

As for a good 19", i really really like my secondary screen, a 19" Samsung, teh 940n - you might want the 940B, its got DVI.

P.S: make sure you get one with DVI! this scaling option *ONLY* works on DVI monitors.
