Am I the only one that knows the difference between "Source 2.0" and "Source2"? Source 2.0 implies a revision of the original Source Engine, where as Source2 implies a successor to the Source Engine. It would be the same as Call of Duty 2.0 versus Call of Duty 2.
No, a revision would be 1.2. (Compare Windows 8.1)
"Source 2.0" and "Source2" imply exactly the same thing.

FarCry was "bleeding edge;" Half-Life 2 was average. I'd say Splinter Cell, throughout its history, has been average as well.

For 2014, yes, Titanfall is average. Respawn Entertainment is private like Valve. EA is merely publishing it.

I played Half Life 2, then Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and finally Far Cry. Overall, I think HL2 looked the best, and Far Cry the worst. Everything from textures, to water, to the cartoonish coloration of everything, to the facial animations was inferior in Far Cry.

Chaos Theory had some nice graphics, but were inferior to HL2 in many ways.

It's generally speaking the norm though. 2.0 implies a version number, 2 implies a new iteration of the product.

I suppose it goes both ways depending on the companies preference. I allign more closesly with Valves rationale assuming this leak is legitimate, in that Source2 would be different from Source 2.0, but I could see where confusion could arise looking at different examples.

This is great. the screens look great. Source is my favorite game engine of all and I love hearing more news about it's successor.

coming up next, the trilogy box. featuring left 4 dead 3, portal 3, half life 3, team fortress 3, and counter strike 2 all powered by source 2.0 for only $133.33. Optimized for SteamOS and Steam Machine systems.

I'm gonna call BS on this.

1. Gabe said there is no Source 2 in the works and the current engine has many years left in it. As a matter of fact Titanfall is running Source.
Gabe infact said that there is a Source 2 in the works.

2. Why would you redo an level of a 3 year old game to show off a new engine?
So you can make instant comparisons between the old and the past.

Like how BF3 remade Strike at Karkand to show how much have changed, like how BF4 remade BF3 maps to show off new "levolution" features, like how CSS and CSGO remade older CS maps (Dust, Office, etc), Crytek even remade the whole Crysis game just to show that Cryengine 3 was much superior than 2, the list goes on.

tbh, Left 4 Dead 2 for me was the most good looking Valve Source game so they're just about right demo-ing it for Source 2.

I was about to say at this point I wouldn't care if they made it in the original Source engine, but that would be a lie. HL3 has to be something else, something glorious. Hype is a bad thing, but HL ... is sort of above that.

Q: "Redesigned Tools & Workflow."? A: The biggest complaint I've heard about the Source Engine in its current state is that it's SDK is very very dated. They haven't updated the tools in a couple years, so I imagine part of the push for Source2 will be focused on an updated toolset for modders and wouldbe developers. The easier you make tools to use the more likely people are to take advantage of them.

I guess that movie maker thingie they released is a beginning of a redesign. Practically, with that they have cutscene editor for source 2 already done.

That said, I poked around L4D2, Portal, and Portal 2 and what was unique about them all is the lack of version information--both assembly version and file version are null.
