doesnt really say it HAS been banned, it just stated there hasnt been a rating applied yet.

If it has above *certain rating* it is automatically banned.

*Normally*, they release an aussie version that pushes the boundary so they JUST get the legal classification (fairly sure they did this with some GTA games).

The problem is, even if its imported...the few that will have the game will need to play on overseas servers, which is kinda pointless...

What is a shame is Australia ruins it for all of us. In order to not have 2 different versions, Valve will cut something out of the US version (really the world version) and therefore make it conform to the standards of Aussie rules. That's why in these times (and during the Fallout 3 release) I hated the Aussie standards, who ruin it FOR ALL OF US DAMN YOU!

We are talking about LEGAL methods of acquiring the game, IE buying it.
In response to your statement: Killing is people is banned in Aus, surely you could just kill people and nobody would catch you.

UPDATE: News.com.au has a copy of the board report. The PDF file indicates that the game was refused classification due to 'high impact violence' against 'living humans infected with a rabies-like virus' that is unsuitable for minors under the age of 18.

Also, like many major TV networks allow, you can watch shows on the web right? Well what if your IP is in the UK and you wanna watch a US show online? No such luck! Steam does the same trick. Only certain IP's in certain countries can buy certain games. Ever try buying a game from Steam through a proxy in Nigeria? Does not work. (I tried from some proxies just to see and it will "detect" the country and deny you!)

Edit: Also, L4D is legal in oz right? Ok so the police will have to be specially trained to see the difference between L4D and L4D2!!!

The Australian version of the ESRB has refused to give L4D2 a rating, meaning it can't be sold in Australia.

Mussels,why is the aus gov so anal about violent games,have there been any violent "incidents" in the past,or are there a lot of gun nuts or something.I thought aus was quite tolerant but after seeing a tv prog about the immigration service i see they are really quite protective of their country for some reason.

we dont have an R18 classification for games.

If a game isnt under the requirements of M15, then they cant sell it in australia.


Its ridiculously stupid, IMO - i'm 18 and i can literally just import the game if i wanted to, or get an american friend to "gift" it to me via steam.
