For those who don't frequent Slickdeals, here's a hot deal for you all:

Walmart has the Lenovo X120e (dual core E-350 version, not the single core E-240 version) for $300 shipped, tax in most. Not sure if it has Bluetooth, but chances are, it doesn't.

The next cheapest on the web is $400 + tax directly from Lenovo.com, with an estimated 2-3 weeks shipping time. HP's DM1z or 3105M are going for about the same price. One functions better, the other looks better, but both are more expensive.

I used to have the HP DM1z before returning it to HP for a mouse issue, and my sister currently has the Lenovo X120e. Both machines were nearly identical in hardware, so they ran very similar. Neither of us have any complaints whatsoever, so long as you don't expect more from it than what it is meant to be. They're great little portables for note taking or casual web browsing on the go. I've personally watched popular Zacate-based 11.6" units for the past month or two, and aside from the HP 3105M for $200 via TigerDirect through eBay over a month ago, this is the current hottest deal. These things are slightly short of full-blown laptop performance, with the battery life comparable to most Atom-based netbooks.

My old DM1z got about 6 hours on moderate use, and my sister's X120e gets about 5 hours.

There's a funny story with me and this damn laptop. I've been looking for an 11.6" Zacate-based laptop for a while now. People have been trying to sell theirs for well over $400, some edging towards $500, even with the knowledge that Lenovo.com was selling the base models (2GB versus 4GB and no Bluetooth) for $400 shipped + tax. I was definitely not willing to dish out $430 for a new unit, and also not willing to dish out anything over $350 for a used unit.

After looking for almost 2 months, someone finally came forward yesterday with what I thought was a smoking deal. I was offered a great condition X120e with 4GB RAM, a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB, internal Bluetooth, a snug Case Logic sleeve, the original packaging, both the factory-installed Windows 7 Pro certified of authenticity w/ serial, a pre-activated Windows 7 Enterprise, and the invoice dated only 7 months old, all for $280 shipped. Of course, I just had to buy it! It was the best deal (by far) that I've found on the web (including weeks of watching eBay, Craigslist, and like 4 different tech forums), only to find out less than 24 hours later, Walmart would sell the base model for $300 shipped + tax.

I've calmed down since spotting this deal. I went apeshit at first, but still, I'm still a little disappointed that my luck would be this shitty, especially since it's technically the beginning of a new year (according to the Chinese calender anyway). I'm more than satisfied with my purchase, but would have definitely considered buying this new unit over the used unit given the novelty of unboxing a brand new laptop.

I won't have that luxury, but I'm hoping someone else will.

Wow...this is so my luck. I missed the Black Friday deal for an X120e direct from Lenovo for $340, then spent two weeks after Christmas trying to buy one from various retailers that didn't actually have them stocked, and finally ended up shelling out $435 for the version with Win 7 Pro and 4GB of memory from Abes of Maine just two weeks ago!

Pretty ridiculous that there are only like two good quality E-350 / E-450 super netbooks, or whatever you want to call them. I like the X120e, but am not sure if I $420 like it yet. I can see why netbooks are being pushed out by tablets and ultra books. The good news is that Thinkpads do hold their value fairly well, so hopefully if the Trinity ultra books ever materialize at a decent price point an upgrade won't be a huge haircut.

I bought my wife the Toshiba L745D. I think she may have liked this instead. It replaced a Eee PC 901.

Ps. Hey Zen, is that your Norton?

Don't feel bad you still got a great deal considering it has a Momentus XT and 4gb ram - that's about a $120-$150 upgrade over the Walmart model.

It definitely was $300 last night...still $370 is a good price for the E-350 model.
