It seems the youtube channel Hardware Unboxed is at it again. LG tried to bribe them with money for a LG monitor review.
Its weird, LG makes some of the best monitors for desktop and laptop screens in the business. Or maybe there was a translation mistake from South Korea to the Western Countries since both have different cultures.

I was seriously considering buying an LG OLED in a couple years. Don't think I will now. That's kind of pathetic. Seriously... they should have the self-awareness to know they can't get away with that crap with hardware unboxed.

although their product is good, some "reviewers" may have personal opinion that may affect the result and make their score lower than normal score, so it's the field where money playing
remember some reviewers bashing some products when it doesn't have RGB light, or some prefer black cables or paracord then dropping the score

HWUB: Shame on you LG for bribing
Also HWUB: Anyway, we made a long ass 20mins video about this so we can make some $$$$ off that ad-sense
In the end HWUB: Look at us! We did not take bribe and totally made loads of money

HWUB is one of the worst drama queens among the tech tubers. Constantly pushing their own bias to pander to their core audience through confirmation bias reinforcement. Never liked this lot and never will.

regardless of your opinion of them, its not cool for a company to try to bribe reviewers. its a shady practice and thats the real issue here. you keep that crap in the make-up cosmetics industry, stay out of our tech world with that non-sense. good riddance I say.

They are "influencers", not reviewers. HWUB is way too good at fanning flame and making drama to be considered as neutral reviewer

i disagree. their monitor reviews are the best in the business. and give me all the info i am seeking when looking for a new monitor.

I prefer reading. RTing monitor review is better IMO.

rtings is good yeah. i usually compare both reviews before i make a monitor buy. rtings lacks some of the gaming specific things Hardware Unboxed talks about though but i do like rtings to check on a lot of the technical stuff not related to gaming

Last year I used them to convince myself to try a 3440x1440 144hz IPS cause it was rated 0.1 to 0.2 below the top tier. Never liked the return policy as much as I did after that purchased. It was horrible even after calibration.

I tried an ultrawide last year as well. I liked the extra FOV, but modern monitors just don't interest me, which is why I was holding out for a LG OLED 40" 120hz someday... OLED is nom nom.

I wanted to upgrade to more hz from my UW but the price jump on top tier is just silly to me. Standard size 16:9 is like 150 where ultras are 400. I could get a good 16:9 high refresh rate monitor for the UW price jump alone.

I thought Hardware Unboxed was generally liked. I don't watch many of these youtube tech videos, but when I have...I've generally enjoyed their reviews.

With that said...the thumbnail seems a little over the top. I'm not even going to bother watching the video.

I gave all my monitor money to AOC this last go around....:).

They weren't exactly caught bribing, technically they were caught selling basically paid content as "reviews" ~ they simply didn't want any negative PR against this lineup! Which is frankly stupid because someone will post something negative eventually, what were they thinking :shadedshu:

i disagree. their monitor reviews are the best in the business.
TFT central, pc monitors & a few others are objectively better! These guys just get more $$$ because YT o_O

Wasn't even that. They didn't want the monitors being compares to their own previous models. GL and GN to the new GP series.

GP850 (2021) are direct replacement to GL850 (2019)
GN850 (2020) is a lower tier GL850 (2019) being replaced by GP83B (2021) <- They should of just said that but the mark up on the GP850 is higher then previous 850. 83Bs are slotting in the previous GL850 price point offering only 15hz improvement over the GN models with a USB service port for firmware updates.

*32inch version 32Gx8xx doesn't have a previous model. Its new to 2021.

That's part of the reason but they did say this, clearly in the email ~

I guess they forgot how this will negatively affect their sales :slap:

Yes this is why the drama feels a bit over the top. HWUB also seems to have "their way or the highway" kind of thing going. Anyway I still prefer print (written) reviews, much less drama & so much more content!

GL850s started being discounted as soon as the GP83Bs were on sale late April. GP850 just adds a OD mode to reach 180hz from 165hz and is VESA HD400 cert and its +$100 from the new revision. Its common sense if you offer something $100 cheaper and the old model GL850 -$50 your bound to cut into your own sales.

27inch
GP850 = +100
GP83B = Base Pricing.
GL850 = -50
GN850 = -100

*32inch which is at the issue doesn't have previous models.

No panel improvements in there? I mean I would pay just for that.
