LGA1366 vs LGA1156 CPU bench comparison

So I was bored and was checking some benchs

So what are the reasons that clock to clock I7 870 is faster then an i7 940?

I was expecting that LGA1366 will be faster considering it has tripple channel memory, a higher bandwith that than LGA1156,...
So what are the reasons that an i7 940 is slower than an i7 870 at the same clock speed

its not that much of a difference if you look closely they seem to trade blows every other bench,
latency
tweaks on the architecture
etc etc all can come into play but in general the difference is so tiny its not worth being concerned about.

it's because of turbo boost. at the same clock speed, turbo boost disabled, 940 is faster than 870.

It's really all a matter of the piece of software at hand, it's like saying why is a 6 Core Phenom II slower then a 4 core i7 in most cases even though it has more cores and higher clock?, it's because it's a different architecture thats capable of pushing out more performance per clock, yet if you test a multi-threaded piece of software you tend to see that it flips around and the 6 Core Phenom II is ahead in some cases.

Triple channel doesn't matter much either depending on the case, because if you don't test software that would utilize the extra available memory bandwidth, then you aren't going to see a performance increase.

Well actually when you look into it the i7 800 series and the i7 900 series (Excluding the 6 core CPU's) are actually very comparable. When building a system with the choices between the two it really came down for me on best bang for the buck.
The best bang for the buck had nothing to do with the CPU really but more what the motherboards I was going to purchase with it had too offer.
With the Socket 1336 you would get better Video card performance and better Memory capabilities. You will also get a little more freedom on overclocking when it comes too voltages and options to tweak.
With the Socket 1156 you won't get some of the things listed above unless you go super highend with the motherboard. But unless you are planning to use anymore video cards then two or three and you do video encoding the scoket 1156 with keep right up with the Socket 1336.

In benchmarks I have found that the difference between the two at stock speeds are very little. And once you factor in overclocking the difference are even smaller.

IMO it was just a brilliant marketing ploy by Intel to design the socket the way they did. Even though there is not much difference.....people (Enthusiasts) will always by the more expensive with the idea they are getting way more then the other guy. But in this case... I don't think that is always right. Especially when you could have gone Socket 1156 and got just as good performance (For the most part) as the socket 1336. But again people don't look at it that way.

Of course now I will have people telling me....Oh no your wrong. Before that happens I am just giving my Opinion and not claiming one is better than the other. So lets not start a fanboy war here.

But I will add this though.... (again not picking favorites) But I build allot of systems for people around where I live. I will say that the i7 900 series and the X58 chipset always (Too me at lest) seemed to run a little smoother. But that could just be mind playing tricks on me.

When it comes to apps which demand memory bandwidth (music production) my choice would be the LGA1366 setup.
