I have a Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite WiFi7 mobo with a 9800X3D Ryzen CPU

Till 2 weeks i always used it on my older systems With Debian 12

I created an ISO on a Ventoy drive with the latest Debian 12.6 installation ISO on it.
During install i get the message it cannot detect the LAN port because it's missing the drivers.

Ffs......The mainboard is from september 2024.... Now it's May 2025.....8 months and still nothing included? Are they sleeping there?

Is there an easy way to fix this? Or maybe a Linux Distribution with everything included for this mainboard? LAN / WiFi / USB3.2-4.0

Arch/Tumbleweed.
why would you use Debian for anything but a at least half a decade old rig. (or how the Debian team calls it: bleeding edge hardware)

Arch/Tumbleweed.
Ok did put Arch on a USB. I Expected to see at least a Live CD so i could see how it looks and runs...
But it only gave me options to install, do a memtest or change firmware or something....
Not a graphical interface for setup...

No thanks!

I'll give some others a try

Try Kubuntu - it has a friendly installation USB, that allows you to run from USB for a try. If you don't see your network chip, do "sudo lspci -v" to find out which device it is and which chip it uses. Then one can find out the support status.

If Gigabyte used some newish chip, usually there is a driver that can be installed using dkms. I have a USB wifi dongle specifically for such rare occasions.

Looking online, it appears Gigabyte had two revisions of the mainboard, one using Mediatek MT7925, and the other using Realtek RTL8922AE. Looks like RTL8922AE is newer and the driver support is still being worked at (link below). If you have it, I would suggest getting a Linux-friendly USB dongle or PCIe card.

DKMS driver link:

I want to add that Realtek has produced some chips that are very well supported with Linux and are stable, so I expect the same to happen with this chip. The driver is apparently already in Linux kernel, but it will take time for the distributions to test and validate it - they are extra careful.

Yes that is what i was trying. I Came from Debian KDE Plasma.
Kubuntu Live CD environment finds the 2.5GHz LAN port, and Wifi works also.

I'm also interested in Bazzite. It doesn't have a Live CD. But installation looks very easy

Good - then everything works, right?

it could be...

But I installed Bazzite.
It does exactly what i need
