I have seen my 5900X @ 215w ppt. Even more at the wall lol.. don’t believe what the box says.. because it said my 130w ppt 5600X was only 65w
Look, I know that the TDP numbers given by Intel and AMD are largely marketing constructs to help consumers decide what range of cooling solutions are viable candidates. They aren't exact measurements. There are plenty of long-winded articles (like one from GamersNexus) that explain what TDP is and isn't.
Remember also that what happens at the wall is irrelevant to this discussion because the CPU isn't the only component in a case that is consuming power. One of my builds with a 5600X maxes out at 105W PPT (because that's where I set PPT in the BIOS) during Handbrake encodes and Cinebench C23 benchmarks. On the other hand, my overclocked GeForce 2070 SUPER will easily hit 235W.
There are plenty of other components inside a PC case that use power, not least of all are the fans on the CPU coolers themselves. Using wall power draw is not a particularly valid data point for selecting a CPU cooling solution.
Obviously. That argument holds true for MOST all AIO's. There are still levels of quality and quality assurance in chinese factory and in opening the boxes from several of the top AIO's on the market, the EK's are visibly superior. I'm not sure what your point is though. Maybe I'm missing something?
Well, I'm not sure about your point in mentioning the origin of EK. It would have been less confusing if you simply stated that you have opened a bunch of top-tier AIOs and from visible inspection, the EK units appeared to be high quality.
I don't write for tech sites, I don't get to evaluate samples. I look at online reviews with a skeptical eye and try to make thoughtful decisions based on reputation, both the manufacturer and any reviewer.
However, I have also purchased a fair number of cooling products over the years (my first custom build was in the late Nineties) with my own money (no media samples).
I find that Alphacool products have generally higher QA than EK. I've also used in the past few years AIOs from Cooler Master, NZXT, Arctic, and EVGA. From my personal perspective, I suggested Arctic and Alphacool.
That is all. As we all know, the number of units that we have all opened up are not a statistically significant sample size. Particularly for AIOs and product availability lifecycles, it is difficult for anyone to review a product based on reliability as well.
