I recently bought myself an X800GTO2 Limited Edition PCIE and realised it needs external power when it arrived. I thought okey doke to the local hardwares shop (maplins) got myself the cables and found that my PSU wasn't powerful enough

Basically i want to game with minimum hassle with best frame rates i can get.

I was running an X800 GT no problems till it died. I basically want a card which requires no external power BUT i want the BEST card which requires no external power

please recommend me some

strange you could run a x800gt and not a gto ? what about a x1650xt seems a good card and doesnt require any other power other than the pcix lane afaik.

well the x800gt requires no external power the GTO2 does.........

Return the X800GTO2 and buy new X800GT ;) if the external power is so big problem for you.

Yes. The X800GT is a very good card.
But the X1650XT is newer and gives you better performance.

The X800 is in the range off a Nvidia 6600GT.
The X1650 XT is compared to a 7600GT.

x1650xt beats the 7600gt in most games and more so with aa/af turned up and the x800gt/o

I would go for the X1650XT. Newer technology. Better image quality.

how many watts is your PSU? and how many amps on the 12V rail?

I dont think the X800XL PCIe needs a dongle...

I would keep the gto2 and upgrade the psu, at least then it wouldn't stop u upgrading to a better card in the future.:)

the X800's run alongside the 6800's...and 6800's are about as good as 7600's arent they?

The ONLY think X800 lacks, is SM3.0...other than that, they are mad :D

The X800GTO2 for sure can be unlocked to 16 pipes (but probably it is with R430 not with R480 which is the best variant). But as proposed above DON'T buy cheap PSU. Buy 400W quality PS which should be app. 50-70USD and use the full potential of the X800GTO2.

lol, on the PSU, there should be a sticker...itll say the Watts in big letters...then itll have a table. in the column "+12V", what is the "A" rating under it?

the x1650xt is based on the same core as the x1950 afaik with just 24 pipes instead of 36

if an X800GTO2 wont work, i doubt an X1650XT would (dont quote me, im not 100% sure ;))

well im inclined to believe anything which doesn't need an external power supply will work.......so if the X1650XT dont need external power then it should work..........

I wouldnt know...dont know much about the X1650XT's and my nets too slow to look em up ;):p

Im still curious about your power supply though. I doubt its worse than mine...and im running the X800XT PE (well after the BIOS flash :p) on it. Its only 200W, with 10A on the 12V rail :eek:

what i do know is i have a 300watt PSU but then again its a dell so that prolly means like 150 REAL power lol

I have a X800Xl laying around and that card requires 400w i thought.

yeah, its a dell, probably not that great :p

I still managed to have an X800XT PE @ X850XT PE speeds, with an OC'd CPU on a 200W PSU with 10A :rolleyes:
(check siggy...scores 5.5k in 3dmark05 :)...and it does get gamed on for hours sometimes ;))
