Local Co-op PC games?

So I bought Zombie Army trilogy in the steam sale and thought it would be a good idea to play with the wife in local co-op as we usually do this on the 360 with COD, turns out you can't play local co-op on this and many other PC games, I usually only play single player but thought it would be cool to play a PC game with the other half as we do on the 360 to spend some time together when gaming..... any recommendations on similar shooter/FPS based games that do allow local co-op play?

If you want a good local coop game and like RPG try Divinity Original Sin is a must, in fact you might find your self's playing though it more than once over time.

But if it has to be shooter try Arma 3 and with all those mods out there you can make it your own game.

That or load up a classic CoD4:MW match and have fun! I believe I heard that CoD4 MW Remastered was not only going to be sold by itself soon (if not by now) but also retained the LAN gameplay code. I'll have to look into it myself...really CoD4 and BFBC2 were the pinnacle and end of my MP FPS gaming.

Edit: Though I don't recall Co-op so feel free to count this one out!

The Lego star wars games are actually really good and support local coop, can't remember if it's 2 or 4.

Lego games are great if your wife is more on the casual side, but they have enough depth to keep even a regular gamer sufficiently entertained for a Saturday afternoon. Jurassic Park is my favorite personally.
Also a must-play (especially if you have ~4 people on the couch) is Gangbeasts. It rivals Mario Kart and Smash Bros for that wild, yelling at each other at the top of your lungs, zany fun. It isn't quite as fun with two players, but it still does the job.
If you've both got a competitive nature and sufficiently fast reflexes, Lethal League is something totally different to try. It's basically a fighting game, but instead of hitting each other, you hit a ball back and forth, sort of like pong. Very fast-paced and reflex based. Good for fighting game fans.
If you don't mind consoles, my wife and I have spent hours in front of every version of Geometry Wars. If you don't know what this one is, it's a must-try for just about anybody who grew up gaming. Dual stick shooter.
Ultimate Chicken Horse is great if you want to have relationship-straining shouting matches. Basically a platformer, but you build the level as you go in an attempt to keep the other person from making it to the end. Very simple to pick up, very difficult to master.

All of these are local, single screen games, though some do support net play as well. I was blessed with a wife who requires her own gaming machine right beside mine, but we have a third one in the living room for those times when she wants to sit on the couch and go old-style in front of the big screen.

Emulators work great here too, if that's your thing. Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros, Sonic the Hedgehog... all those old classics.

EDIT: I totally missed the shooter nuance. All the above still stands though.

Some nice ideas I will defo look at, I have COD MW on steam so if it supports local co-op without mods that's gonna be a an option am sure L4d doesn't have co-op without modding same goes for l4d2 so kinda bummed about that, not really into lego star wars or lego this and the other, didn't realise it would be sp hard to find a good co-op game on PC though, not a console lover in any way but they do make that shit easy!

Castle Crashers
Dirt 3
Gang Beasts
Garry's Mod
Goat Simulator
Helldivers
Mount Your Friends
Particle Mace
Screencheat
Synchrom

Battleblock theater, castle crashers, and gang beasts have all been hits with my friends. Mount your friends is unique and fun for a little while. I have yet to try helldivers but I expect great things. Screencheat is bad, but I have it anyways.

Local coop means on the same screen with one computer. At least that is how steam defines it in their library.


Also @remixedcat, I forgot to mention Combat Core. I have this on my wishlist, but I have not got it yet. It looks like it would be a great local coop.

Local coop means on the same screen with one computer. At least that is how steam defines it in their library.

Oh, no. That list is mostly after LAN games (two computers, one network).

Hardboiled Chicken (very short though) and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime are single-screen co-op. I'd highly recommend Lovers. Wish I had someone to play it with.

Streets of Rage remake which is a fanmade game if you enjoyed playing the original Streets of rage on the Sega Genesis/Megadrive you'll love this remake. Easily have 1 player on controller and 2nd on keyboard or both on controller etc.
