The Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum Mouse is $140, but Logitech claims that it can be used both wired and wirelessly without any loss of performance. At that price point, it would need to be a lot of mouse with a great sensor.

Love the review, i have this mouse, in fact i bought 3 all on sale of course, at the cost of$150(first original purchase time) was way too much but had some cash rewards for a certain brick and mortar and brought it down to $75. I have one to my brother, only after having him try
The g502 proteus spectrum, and he stated he can't go back to it (502). The feel is amazing, the response, the settings and the ability to do wired or wirelessly is a functionality that shouldn't be taken for granted...especially with no perceivable performance loss. I love this mouse without a doubt and purchased a spear just because.

I hate that kind of thing tbh. It's like people saying you should buy a game but when Steam has a sale. Am I supposed to stare myself blind on every site just to wait for a deal? You can setup mail notices and so on, but it still annoys me. And it would still be way more than I want to spend on a mouse. My Intellimouse Explorer was €35.

Yup, a $100+ mouse is a $100+. And you can get pretty decent mice for a fraction of that, as you have noted. Sure, not competition-grade gaming mice, but mice that will get the job done, are comfortable to hold and come with laser sensors.

I didnt notice it being mentioned, but at any point did it install crapware? I ask because the last time I did a firmware update for my G933 (I think - wireless headset) I got something called overwolf or wolftone, something with wolf, which I absolutely did not want or give permission to install!

Very sly. All the more annoying that you pay a premium and they pull something like this. I own a bunch of crap from this company, a stupidly priced keyboard, a pair of surround sound speakers, some other stuff. They charge enough, so leave the crapware out, you got your money.

Once my G700s dies, I'll be looking for exactly same model. Just can't use anything else after G700s :) G900 looks really nice but i need at least 9 buttons for Arma 3 (and definitely NOT on the right side) and it's a little bit overpriced.

Not a single mention of battery life. I mean it is a wireless mouse.

It is really hard to gauge, I have been using it for around 3 weeks now, but only charged it twice. The downside is that I don't know how much I have used it. I charged it a couple of days ago and it says there are still 14 hours of use in it still

I haven't noticed anything installed that I didn't agree to, I know the program you are meaning though, it it something to do with overlays with things like teamspeak etc. I definitely don't have that installed atm.

Sadly my G700s died and i got this turd in its place as a warranty replacement.
I'm afraid I can't agree with the review outcome in this case at all.
Yes, it comes in a nice package, it feels really well made etc. but it's an ergonomic nightmare.
I've gotten RSI after two weeks of using it, something I never had problems with using my G500 or G700s.
The side buttons are placed all wrong and you can't really use the ones on the opposite side all that easily.
There's no thumb rest and the mouse is too low compared to the G500/G700s and older Logitech gaming mice.
Battery life is a lot better than the G700s though, I get 2-3 days at least on a charge, but compared to my Performance MX it's still fairly pants as that lasts 2-3 weeks. The G700s tended to last a day or so.
The scroll wheel is nice though and so is the profile changing button on the bottom, but that's about it.
RIP G700s :(

Wow, I went from a g700s as well and the 900 is by far a superior mouse, better battery life, better accuracy and way less fatigue. I get the thumb rest, but I dont find myself missing it. Fortunately there are so many choices out there, I am sure you will find one that works for you. Im loving mine.

From the review: "If you just use the dongle, you will lose the software functionality since you apparently need to have the dongle plugged into the adapter as well as the cable for it to work wirelessly with the software." What? No you don't. Logitech's "how to connect the G900" page shows plugging the receiver directly into a computer in its first illustration.

While I like my G900 as a mouse, it tracks great and is responsive and comfortable and all that, I find its lighting controls sadly lacking. There is no "solid color" option in the software, which seems bizarre. (Wouldn't this be the first thing they'd program?) The logo and DPI-indicator LEDs cannot be set to different colors. Most annoyingly, every time I turn the mouse on, or wake it up after it idles to sleep, its lighting has reverted to defaults. Since the lighting is one of the selling points here I'd think that Logitech would have put more care into its execution.

If you plug just the small dongle in, it comes up showing 'please wake your device" on my computer, is this not usually the case? The mouse works, but I can't use the software, if I plug it in via the cable, or using the adapter with the dongle, it works fine?

Having only ever used the one G900 I cannot attest to what is "usual", but I have my receiver-dongle plugged in via the ordinary generic USB extension cable I keep attached to my desk and everything works fine, no "please wake" messages. I've been recharging with an ordinary generic micro-USB cable. The G900's micro-B-to-A adapter and fancy cable have been laying on my desk unused; one of these weeks I'll put them away somewhere.

Logitech suggests using the dongle with the adapter and cable partly because it gets the dongle closer to the mouse, so less chance of interference from your PC or Wi-Fi or whatever, and partly because then the cable is already nearby when it's time to recharge. From the previously-linked Logitech page: "TIP: We recommend using the cable and adapter when you’re in wireless mode. This allows for better connectivity and easy access to the cable when you need to recharge." Note it is only a recommendation. I've no idea why yours is behaving that way.

Hmmm, very strange, I will chuck together another computer and give it a try on that! I did find it strange, I tried multiple USB ports, reinstalling the software and some other things, if I can get it to work with out the adapter that would be far better (and I will amend the review).

Thank you for letting me know it can be used otherwise though, will have a play around some more and let you know my findings =)

I still use the Logitech MX510 after +6 years of use. But maybe this mouse, is a worthy replacement.

I can't get a hang of the 502, its 1 handed feel is a lil awkward to me.

Just a heads up, you are completely correct, I have made a couple of other computers and tried the mouse with them and I don't need the adapter! Very strange that my main build does! Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I will amend the review now.

Since the lighting is one of the selling points here I'd think that Logitech would have put more care into its execution.

Do you have issues with the LED's turning on randomly as well, even after having disabled them in the Logitech software? Every so often out of nowhere, the G either lights up in a flickering "white" or red for me. I thought it was an indication to let me know the mouse needed to be charged, but that's not it. The DPI selection LED's also switches between blue and red at random for me. However, I can change the colours, so not sure what's going on with yours. Checked for firmware updates?

That's some killer mouse. I'd probably pick their productivity version of it though - the MX Master, if I was to spend that much money. I am just gonna hold to my G602, which I got for about 40 EUR or so on a sale.
