And this is what Evga has responded: I can say this is an isolated case right now. We have already been in contact with the user and a replacement board is on the way. We are getting that board back to identify the root cause.

If you have/want to post at least dont post just the negative side.

Strange that the card caught fire w/o any of the PCIE 8pin power connections plugged in?

Probably tried to pull all the juice from the PCIe slot instead? Or maybe a fake, I hear not every video on the Internet is unedited ;)

Now i'm going to explain why the video in this thread is real even thou it not related to the OP card on the other website.

If it was fake & rigged, then the user would have known what their were doing. By not plugging in the 8 pin power point, the user stood a very good chance of burning out the motherboard tracks or damaging the pins in the PCI-e slot. If you look carefully the user has another card just in front of the GFX card.

Having that second card in that slot, points that the video in this thread is real, as it could also put that card at risk also.

Now if I wanted to rig a card to blow-up to get attention, I would rig it via the 8 pin power point "internally" to get maximum effect. So for those user(s) that think video is fake, i'm going to say it is real. Remember that the user is trouble shooting after all.

NOT CONNECTING 8 PIN POWER POINT ON GFX CARDS

I do this all the time when I can't access the BIOS menu via my TV. I pull out the 8 pin power point on the back of the GFX card & remove the HDMI cable from the GFX card & plug the HDMI cable into the motherboard HDMI port. This saves me from removing the GFX card from the PCI-e slot.

NOTE: My motherboard has a IGPU which displays on TV, but the GFX card does not display anything until you install the drivers.

Nothing new here....

EVGA 5xx series ... extensive instances of fried VRMs
EVGA 970 SC - 1/3 of heat sink missed GPU
EVGA - cheaped out and didn't use thermal pads on 1060-1080 SC and FTW series.

That being said, I never heard if a bad card not being replaced. If you don't want the hassle, buy an AIB card which uses a custom PCB

Delshay, would you mind dialing back the pointless scaremongering please? Nobody is going to be left out of pocket if their brand new card goes pop.. We're only seeing the odd case here and there, the forums aren't being flooded with people saying their card has blown up.. According to a few tech news channels I follow the rma rate is no worse than any previous generation, and even if that's not true, so what?! This is why warranties exist!

I got one 8' away from me. Recommend getting them from the local fire department so they're rechargeable. If it has a plastic nozzle, it is not.

They just need a Nomex back plate and a fire suppression system built in.

Next time I see a vaguely new member post a clickbait YT video vastly overreacting to RMAs, I'm giving them points.

I posted that YT link as I found it funny, just as the other user in this thread. It' not scaremongering because those are "real fault(s)" with RTX cards which user(s) should be aware.

The fact is, Nvidia admitted there is a problem "confirmed" by Nvidia themselves which is nice to see that their admitted this, so the fault(s) are real.

I for one would not buy such card until the problem is solved, regardless if it under warranty, it's just extra work to send it back. The user(s) card which caught fire maybe a one off, but electrical items can do something that's not expected. I have already put on my risk assessment. I want to be able to walk away from my computer at anytime, knowing it is safe to do so.

Anyone buying one of this cards knowing there is a problem, put there computer at risk, as no one knows what the outcome will be if a fault accurs.

Personally I would wait until Nvidia confirm the issue is fixed. If I had one of these cards even if it's showing no problems whatsoever, I would send it back for a check over. This is my risk assessment, Thank You.

Does anybody know how many confirmed cases of this occurred? ones that can be proven ?

Or is this one of those situations where it happened to a couple, and they figured it might be prone to occur again, so they're just not taking any chances?

I saw some estimates based on a small sample of cards sold in the UK. It was something like 3.3% faulty cards.

A HardOCP reviewer has gone through three of the cards:
https://www.hardocp.com/article/2018/11/09/geforce_rtx_2080_ti_fails_after_gaming_for_2_hours/
https://www.hardocp.com/article/2018/11/21/rtx_2080_ti_fe_escapes_testing_by_dying_after_8_hours/
He hasn't actually been able to complete a review yet. He's waiting for card #4.

So there are two known issues plaguing RTX 2080 Ti: "test escapes" (probably causing the fires) and faulty Micron GDDR6 chips.

2080 Ti has a crapload of components on its PCB (more than double 1080 Ti) which increases the risk of failures. One bad solder joint, resistance is too high, bam, fire.

the cheaper better china product and relying on there old good name .

I still use them but I just as easy could buy a msi card its just who got the card series I want at the best pricing the day I add to cart , not because its a evga , asus or msi card . there all just a run of the mill product to me anymore

you also see a rash of ''burnt '' cards in there 900 series as well . with my evga cards I use now I guess I got to knock on wood every time I fire up to when I shut down for the day I did not get burned [??] knock on wood ...

Good point, i am wondering how could it be possible if there wasn't any power source
plugged in

The PCIE slot ?

You could easily solder a couple of wires onto a VRM power stage and shove many volts/amps through it. I guess if you want attention more than a working 1080 it makes sense lol

I might be mistaken but if I remember right the original video is longer. Its a Father and his son trouble shooting their PC and that happens
