Looking for a flying/shooting sorta game..

I'm looking for a game that sort of takes place on an airplane, it's an FPS but not exactly an FPS because it's not from a first person point of view, rather than from an airplane. I can't really explain it well, but let's hope someone knows what I'm talking about. It doesn't have to be a new game with the latest graphics, just something that fits the description.

Your thinking about a combat simulator.

Try Ace combat 6 for the xbox360 and HAWX for PC. Also there are really old one's that I wouldn't recommend.

I'd also recommend Battlestations: Pacific, I thought it was pretty good (from the demo at least).

Okay, the cousin just asked for a simpler game that mainly requires you to move/aim left and right. He's in his 30's and is probably looking for one of the older (classic) games, anybody know any? I've never played flight simulators and I wouldn't know.

Edit: Okay it's not limited to left and right, left/right/up/down, a button to shoot the submachine gun, and maybe a bomb?

I thought they came out with a recent Galaga re-hash or something similar, that might work for ya. I forget the name of it though. Do some looking on Steam and you'll find it though! It did look pretty decent, I just never picked it up.

WAIT! I know what game he's talking about, the name slips my mind.

It's basically a flat 2D screen where you have a tiny plane that goes left/right/forward/back, one button to shoot, and when you kill some of the enemy planes/tanks whatever you can get a power up (usually in square/diamond shapes labelled M/L/S etc etc). I played that game on PlayStation, but it simply slips my mind. Then at the end of a few stages there's a boss.

It's an OLD game, from a few years back. I've also played it on the computer but the name completely slips my mind!

I just looked it up, 1941 Counter. I don't remember the name at all but the gameplay is very very much alike.

My cousin also mentioned one where you have these 2 orbs that orbit the plane and shield you from bullets... and then 2 orbs that stay in front of the plane and "eat" the bullets..? I have no idea what any of these games are. He played them back when he was a teenager and that's a good 10+ years ago, I didn't even have a computer back then lol.

Unfortunately I can't get it to work.. it keeps saying insert coin LOL. I know I played it online for free somewhere... I just can't remember where right now.

Orbs that protect you from bullets? Reminds me of R-type

Look at the column on the right of the game window. All the controls are there. For one player, press 5 to insert coin and then press 1 to start single player game. Arrow keys move around, control button fires, space does a loop, etc etc.

I'm not sure about the orb one, but 1941 is definitely one of the 2 he mentioned.

Jeez... this brings back memories of riding my bike with pockets stuffed full of quarters to the nearest 7-11 to play arcade games in their little game room. Anyone else remember when corner stores had an arcade room with a few machines?

LOL Okay about 1941, the version I played was a lot better quality wise and every time you die you don't have to start the stage over, you just respawn. I'll show my cousin 1941 tomorrow when he wakes up, but I really want to find the one I played on the PlayStation (if it was even a PlayStation, I can't remember).

that series has been copied in many different ways. There's probably dozens of versions. You're definitely looking for something in the "Arcade" genre, so that should help narrow your search.

IL-2 Sturmovik Series. Especially the latest game, Bird of Prey, released in 2008/2009. Have a look on youtube to see if its what your looking for.

I showed my cousin HawX and he said it was way too complicated, I don't think he'll be playing much of Birds of Prey either. It looks like a great game though, I might try it myself when I'm not so sleepy.

Oh.. read the rest of the posts. The 1941-1945 games are for arcade.. I have some on my MAME32 program.
