Most if not all "7.1/5.1" headset are simply stereo headphone with a bad DSP simulating surround sound with two sub-par headphone drivers. /QUOTE]
not 'all'...
the Roccat Kave, Zalman, and a few others are 'true 5.1'...
6 speakers and 3ea 3.5mm mini jacks (front, center, rear)
again, avoid ALL usb headsets at it it only simulated surround sound.
make sure you are getting 3.5mm plugs (3ea = 1 for each channel front, center, and rear).

Therefore I said most. Also, the tiny drivers on those things are simply terrible sounding compared to a hi-fi headphone. Two big drivers, high quailty on headphones is what you need, with angling the soundstaging is just better than the multi-driver marketing plot. Most if not all "7.1/5.1" headset are simply stereo headphone with a bad DSP simulating surround sound with two sub-par headphone drivers. /QUOTE]

Save for the Beyer MMX300 or Senn PC360 (their hi-fi headphones with mic) any headphones labelled with gaming is to be avoid at all cost.
Either take the advice or fall in to their marketing trap, your choice.
