Looking for a good low-profile video card.

I bought a new PC after my old one died without realizing that it had a smaller case. So I'm looking for a good video card that can run at least Oblivion and/or Firefall at high quality with little to no problems. Preferably I'd like a card that can run X-COM/Skyrim/Planetside 2 at the same quality, but I'm only looking to spend $50~$80 max. So if this is outside my price range I don't mind getting a weaker card.

I have tried looking up a good card via google, but I've been informed that not all low-profile cards will fit in my computer. So I'm confused on how to identify ones that will fit, so any advice on what to look for will be appreciated.

I've updated my system specs on the board as well, so if you need any other specifics you'll have to tell me where to look to find them.

Thank you for your help.

Almost all consumer gaming cards are the same height AFAIK. Can you measure from the top of the slot to the top of where the card will fit (case cover)?

As for a card in that price range, you might be able to find a used 6850, but they're fetching closer to $100, but still a great price point. Poke around on the B/S/T forums here and you might get lucky with something else, like a 5xxx, 4xxx or 3xxx series card. Or a decent NV one.

you bought a SSF pc you wont be gaming on that period
cpu is to slow
the power supply isn't big enough to power a decent gpu the best you are gonna get is that 6670 and don't expect to play planetside2 or firefall or pretty much anything on anything but the lowest settings

You aren't going to find very powerful cards in the low profile form factor, and they certainly aren't going to be cheap either.

The best you will likely find is the HD7750, but it is over $100 and even at 720p struggles with modern games. Most games would be playable, but not on at anything beyond 720p and likely not on high settings.

especially not with that crappy e8400
I hope he didn't pay a whole lot for that setup

I'm not too worried about the E8400 holding the computer back until the graphics card get into the mid-high end area(GTX660+/HD7870+). Of course that is assuming he is trying to game at 1080p though.

he mentioned planetside 2 that barely runs on i5's and pretty much maxes those(for the moment) firefall is not a whole lot better

Planetside2 is still going to be GPU limited at any reasonable resolutions or settings, even with the E8400.

From the manual: "The computer has one standard low-profile PCI expansion slot that can accommodate an expansion card up to 17.46 cm (6.875 inches) in length"

GT 640:
ZOTAC ZT-60201-10L GeForce GT 640 2GB 128-bit DDR3...

But then again, the PSU?

That isn't a low-profile card.

I can't quite check now, but it's around 2-1/2"~3".

I won't mind a dual slot card as it will still fit in my computer. As for my CPU it's above the minimum requirements of Planetside 2 by a fair amount. I figure that trying to get a computer above the recommended requirements will cost me around 5~10 times the $100 I paid for this computer.

a 6670 will not run planetside 2 at playable framerates period(at least not without a looking like a playstation 1 game) .. it hammers the hell out of my 6870 even at 720p
if you wanna game its gonna get fairly expensive and thats all there is to it

Hi,

the best videocard (within your budget) you can buy for your low-profile PC is the one DarkOCean posted about earlier, the low-profile HD 6670 1 GB DDR5, which should be faster than an old Geforce 8800GT. I think you should be able to play X-COM and Skyrim with that HD 6670, but Planetside 2 would become a problem, perhaps with low settings.

I know I am being harsh but I don't want the op to spend a bunch of money only to be seriously disappointed

I don't mind if I can't play Planetside 2 on this computer. I figured that it was a long shot anyway, but you never know if a powerful card just dropped in price.

Well, I've went ahead and took the one DarkOCean posted. After finding it cheaper at another store. :D

Thanks for the help.
