I'm actually going to start with Far Cry 4 - I will let you guys know how it goes.

Will also provide intel such as FPS and the overall gaming performance as it stands with the Phenom II CPU.

Updates to follow. Give me a week or so to see if I can acquire locally.
I saw your list, and IMHO the most fun game on that list, that will provide a little GPU stress and not bog down your CPU is Dying Light. Put that near the too of your list! Between the main game and The Fallen expansion I have sunk a couple hundred hours into the SP game alone!

Yes, Dying Light will certainly push the GPU and as a single player game, you won't be able to stop playing.
The only thing that let it down was the QTE (quick time event) ending and I loathe QTEs which are an abomination.

@storm-chaser - It's not always the point of having the latest and greatest, in fact I find myself going towards older games rather than new ones or older hardware instead of newer hardware, there's just something about the games before that seem to keep me playing them to getting the latest ones..

I applaud you for getting the very last drop of performance from your rig, a lot of people carry on the never ending cycle of upgrading, sometimes I think they forget to just relax and enjoy what they have :(

As for a game recommendation, I've been enjoying Dirt 3 and always a favourite, Serious Sam saga :) I know you mentioned FPS games so I'll go with that one although, I do need to get on and play Doom.. Had it for a while now and I've not really played it myself.... :(

Thanks for the sick game recommendations one and all!
I've acquired a copy of Doom (2016) to kick start this little project of mine.

So far so good. I'm seeing 60-70FPS and the graphics are silky smooth.
Load times are reasonable and while I've only been playing for 15 minutes,
I think this is going to be one hell of a game....

Dying Light is one of the best games out of all the ones suggested. Damn that was fun playing with my buddy. Can't wait for DL2.

Well, so far so good! I probably have close to 6 hours in gameplay up to this point. Despite the minimum system requirements calling for an eight core FX series chip, this little hexacore is holding its own and doing so with ease. As I already mentioned, I'm seeing 60-80FPS for the most part and game play is flawless. "Survivability" is not even in question at this point. LOL

Now, to locate a copy of Dying Light... that's gonna be up at bat pretty soon...

What Ghost Recon Game is said to not work on your system?
Ghost Recon Wildlands was introduced in 2017 and minimum system requirements are listed below.

Ghost Recon Wildlands Official Minimum System Requirements For 1280x720, Low Settings
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-2400S @ 2.5 GHz or equivalent
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 / GTX 750 Ti / GTX 950 / GTX 1050 (2GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better) – See supported List*
  • VRAM: 2GB
  • RAM: 6GB
  • OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
  • HDD: 50GB free space
We are okay in the storage department. Going to add another 350GB storage drive so I can then put my four 80GB SSDs in a RAID0 configuration for maximum performance.
Maybe we will run into an issue with the CPU, only one way to find out. This game is definitely on my short list. Seems to get decent ratings...

Only problem is my internet connection from the desktop is not the greatest so for the moment I'm limited to single player / campaign gaming mode.

And as Phill mentioned, it's not always about the latest and greatest. So in that vein, I'd like to open up the thread for earlier games as well. Perhaps I've missed a couple good first person shooters over the years. To see a brief history of what I've already played, go to post #1...

I Presume for Wild Lands it is due to Instructions that Phenom 2 CPUs have- x86, x86-64, MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4a Where as 2nd Gen Core I 3/5/7 have these additional Instructions SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AVX, TXT, VT-x, VT-d, I guess GRWL was encoded with instuctions beyond SSE4A, However there has got to be a way to make it work with SSE4a

You are wrong, in fact you are way off base. Let me be clear, this is all about pushing the limits of my dated Phenom II system; its not just some bizarre obsession with pegging the GPU. I'm a little surprised you so easily assume I'm putting limitations on the possibilities here, if anything it's quite the opposite. One primary goal is to measure processor viability on newer games. Second primary is to put my new GPU through it's paces. If you got a new racecar out of the blue, naturally you'd want to take it to a good track and measure / compare lap times, performance etc and not just drive it around in the yard... I.e. the new race car is my new graphics card and the track (game) I chose is no doubt one that will challenge the racecar/video card at every turn.

I was going off of your original post which stated "pushing your new GPU to it's limits" with one mention of your Phenom, which was basically what your cpu was.

Okay, gotcha. Naturally we want to push the new GPU to it's limits, that's a given. I'm a high performance junkie, if you will, and it makes no difference if it's cars or computers I'm working with. I always try to find the upper limits of potential performance.

That said, not many thread titles can be descriptive enough to zero in on the OPs thesis. I would recommend going back to page one and reading post #1 where it states:

All that being said, can anyone recommend a game that would suite my system specs as well as my preference for action, adventure and fast paced shooting?

I don't want this post to come across as condescending, just wanted to clarify some of points of interest.
