Great news for me! My husband decided we sell a van we no longer use, and part of the proceeds will go for a new laptop for me. :D

Basically I know what I want, but I'd appreciate any help/advice very much.

- LCD - 17" preferably 1680x1050
- Processor - Core 2 Duo not less than 2.5Ghz.
- RAM - 4GB DDR2
- One optical drive
- One HDD ~200GB size
- OS Vista Home Premium 64bit
- Graphics, 8800M GTX or similar but preferably not Sli

Budget: ~ USD 2400 or ~ 1860 Euros.

I'm not particular about brand, as long as the components are like I wish. I had a look at the Alienware site but the prices are way too inflated. I also looked at Cizmo as well here http://www.mycizmo.com/?main_page=product_info&cPath=65_67&products_id=182&action=configure and here http://www.mycizmo.com/?main_page=product_info&cPath=72&products_id=181&action=configure but it also goes above budget even without the OS and they don't specify whether the OS is 64bit or 32bit.

I'm not particular about weight and battery life. I'll be carrying it by car, and always to places where I can plug it in. As long as it folds and is easier to carry than a desktop I'm happy.

Am I asking for too much for too little money or is there something I'm missing out?
The thing is I don't want to get something which performs less than my rig, because I'm sure I'd be disappointed.

I just bought a Gateway P-6860FX here in the States at Best Buy for $1249.00 USD. It has exactly everything you listed, except that the processor is 1.83 instead of 2.5Ghz. The basic specs are;

Intel® Core™2 Duo mobile processor T5550; 4GB DDR2 memory; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; Labelflash support; 17" widescreen; 320GB hard drive; built-in Web cam; Bluetooth; Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1

I looked to see if they sell a 2.5Ghz processor, but haven't found it yet.

Mark

Edit: This has a 2.4Ghz processor, but only 32 bit Vista, Gateway® P-172X FX Edition (Non-RAID or RAID) it lists at Gateway for $2369 with all of the extra warrantees, MS Office and Norton Internet.
