Not really concerned about price too much, just a little. Something good for games and music. Not one over the other. Not big on "features", more about the quality of the sound.

Corsair sp2500? they look decent, i have the Alienvibes w601's and they do a damn good job at playing games and playing my music, although its a 2.2 system. I find myself using em more than my headset

why not buy speakers from a speaker company? I never understood why people buy products from companies that have no business making them in the first place. Speakers from a I/O company? makes no sense

http://www.klipsch.com/promedia-2-1-computer-speakers

I've herd these in store and I've wanted them since i was a child.. Any review I've ever read said they are on a level of their own.

Any branded speakers like Logitech have got nothing on klipsch. They used to make a 5.1 system too, but too expensive.

The corsair and the Klipsch look pretty good. The Klipsch is THX certified and has a slightly wider frequency response. It is also more compact and about $20 less. Thanks for the suggestions.

the z623 are as well, thats partially what drew me to them. That and i got them refurb for $70

I'll have to check out the z623. Though, to be honest, I have never really been a big Logitech fan. That should not exclude the z623 from a fair look though.

I'm not digging the M-Audio's NinkobEi, but thanks for the idea.

I have heard nothing but good things about the M-Audio BX5

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005F3H6Q8/?tag=tec06d-20

or if you're wanting to go cheaper the M-Audio Av30/Av40

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0051WAM1O/?tag=tec06d-20

Was going to recommend the M Audio AV 40s as well, and then get a subwoofer. That setup will beat nearly any 2.1 setup you can find.

Newegg has a 10" Energy Subwoofer for $79.99. It retails for $199.99.

Energy Power 10 Sub 10" 100W Subwoofer - Newegg.co...

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0051WAM64/?tag=tec06d-20

The subwoofer does well adding the low frequency bass that the AV40s can't do.

EDIT: The Klipsch kit is the best your going to get for the price I would think. Easily better then the Logitech or Corsairs.

Or you can go all out and look at Audio Engine A5s, and then if the bass isn't enough add a sub.

How about the Harman Kardon Soundsticks III 2.1? A lot people said that these speaker set sounds great, but doesn't provide many features, e.g. no headphone jack, no remote etc..

On the other hand, you got to hear it yourself, ask for a demo if you can. Well, sound quality perception differs for everyone in terms of sound-stage, mids-/high-/low-end, clarity etc. etc..

Klipsch have always had great sounding satellites, but they've had a problem with quite a few of their sub amps burning out from heat buildup. They don't use very big heatsinks and they're internal vs external.

It's not necessarily a problem on their 2.1 sets due the lesser wattage and heat, but what makes me skeptical about the set linked to above is their spec on the sub is a mere 3". That's either a typo or the claimed 31Hz has to be an embellishment.

I also wouldn't worry too much about branding on a product like this. Quite often they're made for the company that puts their name on them by speaker specialists. Such was the case with my Creative Gigaworks S700 5.1 set that was made by Cambridge SoundWorks.

Just to throw an odd ball in there why not older hifi equipment? Im running a pioneer SA-520 from around 1973 (not 100% on that) if your after small compact etc then ignore this completely but after having these i would never go back to a modern system. Yes they use more power, much much much bigger but they sound truly amazing.

Some of the amplifers from that series look amazing and sound pretty sweet too, my system consisting of a pair of speakers similar to below, amp mentioned above turn table, tuner, tape deck i picked up for £40 from charity shops. Takes allot of effort finding then cleaning them up but the pay off is so worth it.

Not my particular system but an example of what can be had.

If you can handle the drawn out length of it, this seems like a pretty accurate review of the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1. Note he's using them in what looks to be a small room though.

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Speaker Review - YouTube

What he said about the sub is what I would expect, and in my comparisons they also don't sound quite as tight and accurate as some. Pro Medias have always been best for their mid clarity. I found the sub driver is 6.5" btw.

Benchmark Scores Faster than the tortoise; slower than the hare.
They used to make a 5.1 system too, but too expensive.
Discontinued in 2005. I don't know why. :(

My BASH has been serviced 3-4 times though so I suspect that might be why (design flaw they didn't want to fix).

I also have a 5.1 system in my living room. Yamaha receiver and 3 Polk 2 Boston audio speakers. The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 sounded so much better I took the Polk Audio speakers back and bought Klipsch for it
