Hello all,

I want to look for a laptop for a relative who is in college and is using/learning autodesk 3D MAX and autoCAD. I understand quadro and firepro systems are expensive. So for college kids who typically don't have money, what type of GPU/laptop is reasonable for a college student? I'm aiming towards ~$600.
Thanks.

Nvidia is better for 3D applications with opengl viewport (autodesk 3D MAX and autoCAD) ... he doesn't need powerful GPU if he is not using Octane renderer or similar GPGPU renderer that uses CUDA or opencl. CPU is a priority here - so go with Intel mobile i5 or i7 with nvidia 640M or 650M

That one is fine except 1366 x 768 screen ... i suppose under 600 bucks he can't get discrete gpu and 900p or 1080p screen ... for autocad and 3d studio it's pretty uncomfortable even at 1080p

The 4200U is basically a Core i3 (2 cores 4 threads) with more cache. You have to step up to a Mobile Core i7 to get a real quad core.

EDIT: For the price is good though.
