Yes, I think you still can for now with Office 2019, but afaik Microsoft has discontinued any further non-subscription versions of Office.

I don't like paying a yearly tithe to Microsoft either. However, I got the sub at a discount through work and things like OneDrive, online Office apps along with constant feature updates and bug fixes are worth it in my opinion. There's no absolute right or wrong on this one, though.

Finally, I think you can get Office 2019 from www.office.com if I remember correctly and it won't be pirate like all these other third party sites where you can buy a "guaranteed legit gov!" key for a tenner for software that costs £300. Yeah, right.

Agree. It's the blood letting every year I'd like to avoid.

The tell is if the download link is from MS itself. The last time I got an Office 19 licence on the cheap, it was downloaded from MS directly and actvated with the code sent, no issues, still going strong on a MS Surface 3

This is precisely the reason I switched to LibreOffice. Even though as a Microsoft Office Master I can get it at a discounted price, I refuse to jump on the hampster wheel subscription BS.

And that's your choice. While I do have a subscription, I don't have a problem with people going the free route like you have.

Yeah, I'm aware. MS is prioritizing getting people to install W10 and then getting money out of them later via activation, apps from the MS store, OneDrive/Office365 subscriptions, etc.

Not really a valid way to tell if the software is legit. Microsoft makes the downloads available for free, you don't need a legal license to use Microsoft's downloads.

I found a few others through Google. eBay used to be rife with fake accounts selling warez like that for sub $10 prices, but it looks like theyv'e cracked down on that.

@Sasqui but these aren't from Microsoft, they're a third party key seller. Sure, they can link to the official product download locations, but that means nothing. There's no endorsement there by Microsoft and I'm sure they're not happy about it.

Look, my heart really doesn't bleed for gigantic megacorp Microsoft that their software is getting pirated, but the buyer should always know what they're getting into and in particular, what's legit and what isn't legit. None of that stuff is legit. Again, how can a product that sells for £300 off the Microsoft website be legit when one buys a key for £10 from a third party seller? It's really bleedin' obvious.

It isn't pirated software but not everyone agrees it's legal either...

Most of them are volume license keys that people are illegally reselling. When you buy a volume license, Microsoft gives you one key and you can activate it 5000 times. So people take those keys and re-sell them on these key sites. They keys aren't legal, they aren't valid, but they'll activate.
