the increase would be minimal, and your not bottlenecking your system with your oc on the q6600 so performance in games would be like 2-4 fps. not worth the extra ~$300+ for 2-4fps.
get another GTX 260, that'll show a MUCH greater performance upgrade than a new CPU, going from a q6600 to the q9550 is like going from an e7200 to e8500, and upgrade but not worth the extra dough.

It takes some time to run out, usually upwards of a year, but it does run out.

I've seen Vegetable Oil, Motor Oil, and Mineral Oil used as TIM. I've also seen PCs completely submerged in all three. The Vegetable Oil give the best performance, but runs out and goes rancid. The Motor Oil doesn't go rancid, but runs out extremely quickly. The Minderal Oil runs out very quickly also, but doesn't go rancid.

There really is a reason people don't do this, the benefits don't outweigh the down sides.

That was the 3800+ X2. I can't compare that anymore as it no longer has an IHS, so the temp would be even better. But it never went above 40C on stock volts/cooler in 20C ambients.

One thing you must consider with the 9550, it would take 423fsb to hit 3600 and 470 fsb to hit 4GHz. make sure you know what your board is capable of.

Yes this makes think it just might be worth it and I also plan on a second video card just this mobo has the PCI-E slot so close it might not be a good idea to do as the heat would be very hard to control on the top card that is .. :eek:

i'm considering the same upgrade. not sure if i want to go all new mb and ram for core i7 tho, maybe phenom 2 or just upgrade to a q9550 and wait out another little while.

i use water for my thermal paste, it only lasts about a second or two BUT I get really super temperaturs

a q9550 will get you higher bench scores, another gtx will give you higher fps

i use no TIM or when i use it on a CPU that isn't lapped i use MX-2... You may want to consider moving to MX-2 when you run out of AS5.The faster one that you linked should have no problem with that.(don't remember the name :laugh:

i dunno but the E8600 is good i dont own an intel rig so recommending a intel cpu isnt my forte, E8400 is just the same cpu with only 9x multi instead of 10x but is much cheaper

dunno if even changing cpu is the best idea, i also say get an sli setup

me personally id keep the cash and wait and get a whole new system

Yeah well I love quads I don't really want to get a new mobo as this mobo is new I just got it and as far as ram I just got 4 GB's and well DDR2 is cheap and I see no real need to go to DDR3 as of yet .

I am how ever still torn I want a second card and I think I want a new Quad core but I hate to decide maybe I should just get both ?

hah... no upgrade from a q6600 is worth its $$ now. Trust me. I went from a Q to a 4ghz+ dual and I kind of wish i hadn't fried my Q.

listen to kid(whatever numbers) and get another vid card... or splurge for some water cooling.

so I think maybe I will try to pump in 1.5Vcore and see if that help me get stable at 3.8GHz , Yeah the same video card I have is still on newegg for $199.00 so I think if I can get this to 3.8GHz stable I will buy the video card tomorrow .
