I tried to click and install latest driver for my EVGA 1070 and I get this error see image, I tried to do system restore but I was not able to . how can I fix my computer now? I had to go to F8 then choose keep my file but reset this computer.
I cant even open anything in setting to do win update.

NVidia Control Panel.... or wherever the project thing is coming from.. perhaps windows settings...

Again, hard to help with the vague description... a SCREENSHOT would help us all.

Good for them. I haven't used it UNLESS I NEEDED IT (there were issues). The only reason I do it is on the review machine when switching from AMD to NVIDIA or vice versa (and even then it isn't NEEDED). But for driver updates, I don't bother.

What is DDL? Assuming you mean some 3rd party driver utility, why use it? I have never had NVIDIA's own installer fail during an upgrade.

To me DDL means data definition language.

I agree with bug. Hardware driver developers tend to know best how to install, uninstall, and update their own drivers, as does Microsoft who establishes, along with the hardware industry, the protocols and standards for those drivers.

Everyone? Not even. Most experts and experienced users know better. 3rd party apps to control drivers are not needed and very often cause more problems than not. And you just witnessed it on your own system! The folks at NVIDIA (and AMD) are not stupid!

If this were me, I would uninstall the NVIDIA driver and control panel using the Windows > Control Panel > Programs and Features applet. Reboot to Windows native drivers. Then get an AMD card and install that. By using a totally different brand card, you force the OS to totally re-write and reset every graphics setting in the system. When you attempt to install NVIDIA over NVIDIA (or AMD over AMD), in some cases, the installer will see a [potentially corrupt] file or setting is already there, and not over-write or reset it. It does [hopefully] get properly reset when you change GPU brands.

Then, you can do it all over again, if you want, and uninstall AMDs control panel and driver, reboot, and install the latest NVIDIA driver.

Yeah, that one I'm familiar with - but don't recommend either, unless, maybe, a normal uninstall fails for some reason.

Follow these steps:

- Uninstall the current Nvidia driver, simply through Start > Settings > Apps > add/remove. Find the driver and all related Nvidia bits. Remove. Reboot the system.
- System will now default either to VGA/basic output or it will auto download some crappy Nvidia driver. When it does the latter, just let it do its business. If you can't decide whether its done, reboot first before going on.
- CLEAN INSTALL the new Nvidia driver.

If by now you're still not getting normal behaviour, remove all storage media except the one containing your Windows install. Back up files you need from that Windows drive. Format the drive and reinstall Windows, then start from the top, second step.

This way I strongly doubt you will encounter new problems. When all is said and done, turn off system, reconnect your missing storage media, and game on.

Command prompt as administrator:
Code:
sfc /scannow
Reboot if required(if after it finishes it says you need to).

Then...

Command prompt as administrator:
Code:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If that doesn't work, try an in-place upgrade with install media of the same version you're currently running(1803, 1809, etc.). Which is pretty much the same thing as a reset. But might work better.

If that doesn't work, then do a clean install.

People just expect immediate responses. In my TZ this was posted 45min before I had to be on shift. I dont get off work for another 2 hours+ travel time. I have the luxury of being able to browse the net at work.

He may not. Assuming thats what happened, but this path of conversation is hardly relevant.

I never use DDU anymore... tried a few times, but found the utility isn't updated as frequently as the drivers ... if I used an uninstaller, I'd use this.

https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/...an-installer-for-nvidia-drivers-alpha.249085/

My method is rather simple....

1. When new driver comes out, install it.
2. Move on

If it's a problem or I have changing hardware ...

1. Uninstall drives from Add / Remove programs. all accessory nVidia stuff 1st
2. Reboot
3, Use Ccleaner to remove all things nVidia
4. Search storage for anything nVidia and delete.
5. Reboot
6. Make hardware chnages if appropriate
7. Boot and install drivers.

DDU definitely gets updated as often as it needs to(if not more). If you're gonna dis somebody it oughta be Nvidia. For not having their own clean un/install utility. AMD's had one for ages.
