Hey guys, i currently have a i3 540 with a DH55TC board and a GTX 560 OC, i game at 1366x768 and i manage to play most of the games with max settings.. Now im thinking of upgrading my processor, and some other stuff. Keeping the GPU for now, the 560 is just fine for me for now.

So my budget for the upgrade is not very high, lets say about $250, and i was thinking of getting the FX6300 and a decent board along with it which will allow me to take the clocks to around 4.5Ghz, please suggest me one.. Now, Will this upgrade be worth it? At around 4.5Ghz, will the FX6300 be able to perform close to a i5 3450 or 2400?

And next year ill probably get a HD monitor and sell off the 560 and get a 760 SLI setup (or wait for the 8xx series), so will the FX6300 be a bottleneck?

Need advice.

FX6300 is a good bang for buck processor at the moment. it will game pretty decently. but if you are looking at going with multiple monitors on that 760 sli setup, its best to look at intel's offerings like 4770, etc.

Honestly, nothing, im able to play all games maxed, some games need some minor tweaks here and there, but thats okay. Other than that general usage is also just fine, PC never slows down whatsoever, thats why im not sure whether i should upgrade or not.

Don't! Things only get cheaper over time. If you don't stand to benefit, why spend your money? Save it up, and you'll be able to get something better when you actually need the upgrade.

The only other thing I would say looking at your specs is that maybe you'd benefit from a 128GB SSD. Also, a mild OC might be possible on your CPU, though I must stress MILD, given the VRM on that board and presumably stock cooler.

Id get the ssd as a Samsung 840 250gd non pro is about 130 and spend the rest on a decent 1080p display as you cant see much detail at that resolution so gameing at max is wasted

Honestly, in your case I would look for a Intel® Core™ i5-750 CPU to put in that board. You can likely pick one up for $100 or so, see if that memory of yours can do 1600MHz with say 9-9-9-25 timings, leaving $150 to plump into a nice GPU upgrade, something like a 7790, or use that $150 to get a nice new monitor.

But i wont be able to use a decent SATA 6.0 Gbps SSD right? Due to my outdated motherboard which only supports sata 3.0 Gbps?
